Winston/Sanders combo era should provide some entertainment.

So Watson's cap hit just got way more complicated. And maybe way better. Apparently, he is insured for 44 million for the 2025 season - all but 1.7 mil of his contract. If he never plays next season the Browns get all of that in cap relief in the 2026 season. I think. Also, they got some insurance for the games he missed this season, which hits next season as cap relief.

So... long story short. In both 2025 and 2026 his cap hit was supposed to be about 72mil, dropping to 27 mil in 2027. If I understand this correctly, whatever insurance they get this year will come off the cap next year. And then the 44 mil insurance (assuming he doesn't play next year) will come off 2026.

Right now they are 23 mil over the cap for 2025. But I think they are rolling over 42 mil and they might get maybe 8 mil back in insurance, meaning they might currently be sitting about 27 mil under the cap for next year. I don't think that includes cap escalation. In 2026 they have about 10mil of cap room (worst in the league) but 44 mil of that will come off for insurance if Watson does play. So they'd be 54mil under the cap.

Not awesome, but the sky might not be falling maybe?

And to add one more wrinkle, if Watson tore it again doing anything but rehab they could void the whole contract and wave bye bye with no cap hits. A Cleveland miracle, that would be. So it won't happen. But it could. But it won't.

    But it could?

Please go to war against this contract, Jimmy. You’re a billionaire and this deal is an embarrassment from the jump. Nuke from orbit. Behead the remains, if any.

Well shit. The best defensive player in the League has requested a trade from the Browns. Thanks for the effort Myles; hope you enjoy winning elsewhere.

I'm opening up the bidding at a starting caliber player and 2 1sts if I'm Andrew Berry.

On the other hand Justin Tucker is queued up perfectly to join the Browns now.

If he's gone, then I hope he goes somewhere great like Buffalo and gets a shot at bringing the same Lake a title.

What's truly sad about all of this is it's all directly related back to the franchise-destroying trade that the Watson deal was. You gave away 3 years of #1s that could help a Garrett (and Chubb and Ward and every other good player that's been on the roster since then) during his prime. You tied your GM's hands to sign free agents (and Haslam does spend all the money so that's really saying something) by guaranteeing all of Watson's contract. You demoralized and split the locker room between Watson's guys and everyone else. You castrated your 2x Coach of the Year by making him start and stand behind Watson when he was putting up the worst stats in NFL history.

    What a joke.

And that's even before you get to the whole sexual predator and general piece of shitbag Watson is and the effect he had on the organization and its fanbase.

They should teach about that trade in sports management courses.

The Bills won’t want him just yet. Let him age ten years and then he’ll be our guy.

That’s exactly the kind of big name previously great player the bills look for. He can play with Milano.

Apparently Haslam even refused to meet with Garrett. I love Myles, but I feel like this team is one year away from getting really old, really quick. So if trading Myles gets you a player, a 1st and maybe some other crap round pick then I say you gotta jump on it. As talented as this Defense is, this League has shown us time and again that none of that means dick if you don't have a QB - which we all know the Browns don't.

Browns situation is now pretty nuanced. They just restructured Watson yet again, so they now have 12ish mil in cap room. Next year they have some amount of relief coming due to the insurance, but no one knows how much. Myles wants a trade and he just asked Haslem for a meeting and Haslem gave him the Heisman, blowing him off, so thats nice. Salary cap is gonna escalate pretty hard. Seems theyre trying to avoid a rebuild and rumors are they want to select Ward in the draft.

Feels like there are enough balls in the air, and the air is filled with just enough hope, that the impending explosion should be spectacular.

I wish you could bet on things like "Whichever of Ward or Sanders the Browns dont select will go end up in Canton." You should probably take out a second mortgage to bet on that.

Damn, EWG, isn't that a fact. Bet the house on the Browns taking the wrong guy with the #2 pick. Garrett was the only #1 overall pick by the Browns that I considered a sure fire thing. I loved Baker, their other #1 overall pick, and wish he were still with the team, but we can't also pretend that Baker didn't have his problems. FFS, think about that: Browns had the overall #1 pick in 2017, 2018 (they also took Denzel Ward at #4 and Nick Chubb at #35 in that draft which is just bonkers), 2019 they traded their 1st round pick for OBJ, and then 2020 had the #10 pick in Jed Wills Jr. How they managed to take all those consecutive years of top of the draft talent and squander it is the definition of Brownsian.

Alright Myles! Here we go Brownies, here we go!!WOOF, WOOF! Makes me wonder what happened in the last week because his agent (LeBron/Rich Paul’s Klutch Sports) said no amount of money would make him change his mind. Maybe they’re bringing in A-A-Ron and really going for broke this year?

Mary Cay Cabot says Myles is actively recruiting free agents now. Word of a Joe Flacco back to Cleveland to play bridge QB to whoever they take in the draft as well. This is the kid of hope that gets Browns fans set up for a fantastic letdown in December.
