They haven't put in Winston because Watson's contract, as we all know, is vicious, so the ownership feels they need to make absolutely certain before they give up on Watson - because if Watson is a bad quarterback the franchise is fucked for the near future. And there's pretty much no way out.

Oh yeah - spoiler alert - Watson is a bad QB.

I get it, but isn't it even tougher on your ego to go 2-16 and be the laughingstock of the NFL, the team every other team circles (well, other than the Pats) on their calendars and says "well no matter how bad its going, THAT week is a W at least"

The talking heads on the lobby TV told me today that Deshaun Watson (btdubs, congrats on settling your latest sexual assault suit, buddy!) is the statistically worst starting quarterback since the Browns came back into the league in 1999.

Look at this jersey. He's worse than all of these guys in every meaningful way, including being a decent human being. Johnny Manziel is on that list. Think about that.

Also, since we are here, cementing the Browns fan's status as the most tortured fanbase in sports, the Watson trade is horrific, and this article goes into exhaustive, detailed and specific reasoning for why and how.

Congrats Brownies - you win the worst trade ever and own the worst offensive team in 25 years.

I saw a blurb online that said Stefanski's Monday presser would be delayed today and I thought - good, someone read that article and they're announcing that they are benching Watson.

Nope, he spoke like a man with either someone else's hand up his ass or had his wife and kids bound and gagged just out of view stage left - "we believe Deshaun gives us the best hope going forward".

Give me a break. Bench him, then eventually the clown and take your medicine. If Stefanski is given the door because of the team's performance then that will be tragic - a sacrificial lamb on the part of a sexual predator that can't play quarterback.

Thank God for the Cleveland Guardians. Roll Guards!

Listen, I really like Cooper and thought he was a real pro's pro during his time in CLE. Didn't ever complain, wasn't a prima donna like so many other WRs, did his work and got on with it.

Then business Cooper showed up in camp this year sitting out. Browns converted his salary to a guaranteed bonus and he came back to practice. He got pissy when he was mentioned in the Ayuk deal rumors and then went on to be 7th in the league in drops.

I wish him well with the Bills, but I hope he goes back to being all about the work Amari, cause whatever this is isn't working for him.

Cross-post to the NFL thread discussion re: trading franchise players, and how there's some that are just untouchable, it's funny that Nick Chubb posted this editorial today in the Player's Tribune:

(Excerpt from the larger piece - bold/highlighted bit to drive home point about how the city is different when it comes to guys like Nick, Myles, Jose, Bernie...)

"I look up at the TVs, and I see the legend, the GOAT, Jim Brown coming up to the podium to announce the pick for the Browns.

Still can’t hear anything. Everybody going nuts….

Then I see my name flash up on the screen.

    RB NICK CHUBB — GEORGIA.

    216.

    Cleveland, OH.

That was the best phone call I ever got.

I turned to my mom like, “You know as soon as I get a couple of those NFL checks, I’m retiring you, right?”

The Browns changed my life that night, but more importantly, they changed my family’s life.

Now I think you understand what I mean when I tell you I was meant for this city. I’ve tried to work my ass off every day to get us where we need to go, and even though we have gotten close, I feel like I have serious unfinished business. That’s why it hurt me so bad to go down last season. We were just starting to cook……

I can’t stop until I prove to everybody that I’m the undisputed best running back in this league, and I definitely can’t stop until we get the Browns back to the top of the AFC. It’s been too damn long.

    Thank God that I healed.

Thank God that I can continue to play this great game.

Thank God that I get the chance to run it back.

You want to hear what the Browns told my agent, by the way?

When my agent called me to tell me the news, he said, “I’ve never actually had a front office tell me anything like this. But they said that part of the reason they never entertained cutting you is because of how much you mean to the city.”

That really meant the world to me. Look, I know the deal. I had no guaranteed money left. The Browns had all the leverage. They could’ve left me high and dry, like so many guys in this league. But they had my back. You all had my back.

That’s enough talking for me. There’s only one thing left to do now. I gotta pay ya back.

These rocks ain’t going to move themselves. Let’s work.

    — Nick

Honestly if your top receiver isn’t a diva then I don’t think they have what it takes. (Same with DBs )

Dang, just read that the mayor said the browns are leaving Cleveland proper for a new dome in the burbs. What say you, brownies? Having never been to your fair city, I'm unfamiliar with brook park. Is it like a lot of burbs where you'd never know you'd left the city unless you saw a sign or somebody told you?

Brandine: Now Cletus, if I catch you with pig lipstick on your collar one more time you ain't gonna be allowed to sleep in the barn no more!

This is an absolute win for the City of Cleveland, the Browns and Brook Park.

Brook Park is where the airport is, and a lot of seedy strip clubs. The site of the new development is the only contiguous piece of land (176 ac) in the metro that is available. It's the former Ford engine plant and it's 1,000 yards from the airport which is going under a massive renovation. It allows the facility to host so many more events than just 10 home games and a couple other events than the current (very hastily-constructed) stadium does. The plans call for a mixed use development very similar to The Battery here in ATL.

Win for Brownies, win for Book Park.

To me, the biggest win is for the City of Cleveland in that this, along with the $60M the Feds just granted Cleveland for lakefront improvements - turn State Rt 2 into a 2 lane boulevard from a highway with multi-use path and build a land bridge joining The Mall (large outdoor green space) in downtown to the lakefront - allows the City to finally turn the biggest piece of lakefront property into the park/mixed use/recreation development that they've been working on for 40 years.

(remove the stadium from the below rendering)

Browns fans: whats the over/under on Nick Chubbs carrys/rush yards Sunday? The O line is garbage and obviously the worst quarterback ever to play pro football, but... Nick Chubb!

I guess the better question is (for those of us who have been hoarding him on our FF benches), if the Browns D comes up with a turnover at the Bengals 5 (only way I see them getting into the red zone), does he get the call?

That TD carry makes all the difference between a 54 yard, 5 point game, or a 59yd, 1 TD, 12 point game.
