Does Taco Bell Still Make a Chicken Meximelt?

Love the double decker. My dumbass local TB is not a corporate store and has taken it from the menu. (Maybe they all did?) But, of course, they make you one if you use your manners.

Pro tip: thin your canned refrieds with sour cream and some mild hot sauce. (As you heat them in a saucepan or slow-ish-ly in the micro.

    Caveat I’m no pro.

I always added sour cream to my $0.59 bean burrito in college. Gave it the "yin" to the 5 packets of hot sauce "yang" I'd dump in that thing.

Double decker has been gone for a few years now nationwide. That was the best thing on the menu…

No canned refried beans in this kitchen. They're so cheap to buy dry my cheap ass will do them from scratch. Pretty much always have some in the fridge. I'll try that though, sounds perfect for tex mex.

The juxtaposition in presentation is admirable.

It’s hard to find good Chinette outside the Upstates.

I for one commend the efforts here.

Apparently Taco Bell is bringing back the Meximelt along with a bunch of other fan favorites.

... but only in Southern California.

Too bad, I was all set to go get 1997 levels of high and test my modern day intestinal fortitude.

You might not believe it— but that is a double-decker. Soft tortilla, beans, hard shell, rice, meat, cheese, more madness, topped with a fried egg.

    Because Fuck Yeah.

Not readily visible is the green cayenne pepper sprinkling the exterior. And the fact that the soft tortilla was fried in cheese. You should do that.

Fuck butter. Sprinkle shredded cheese as your base to these tortilla-external beasts. Lay a layer of cheese before your tortilla.

Went to TB for the first time in a while and asked if they still make the MexiMelt. The woman said no but that they could add meat and tomatoes to some cheese melt thing from kids menu? Anyway, it was a technically a MexiMelt, but at nearly $4, was it really?
Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.

It's been years, but that sounds way cheaper than it used to be when the MexiMelt went to some kind of weird purgatory where it wasn't on the menu but it was still in their computers and make table instructions. If you had the audacity to order chicken instead of ground beef it was like $7 a pop and even then the pricing was highly variable depending up on the person entering it into the register.

Ouch. Gotta wonder if some of that went to the cashier’s pocket.

It’s funny, now being reasonably comfortable financially, still having a moment of panic when you hear the price. Like a quick mental trip back to HS and the 59/79/99 menu. Followed by the realization that you can afford it, but won’t be ordering it again out of principle.

    Hi, are you me?!

I love this stuff when I'm in the mood for it, but I just can't deal with the prices.
