    Okay, so now it’s ‘24.

(Wish I could post a URL or a picture, FFS)

    Released, RM Altitude
So, yeah, I have two identical Altitude frames, ones is 150/160 (air), and one is 170/170 (coil air). I think this fits my needs just fine right now. But the improvement list is pretty excellent, they have definitely been listening.
    Threaded BB
    Mullet adjust without separate part.
    Well executed burrito holder.
two water bottles ( or tool spot)
    Headset reach adjust.
    Ride 4 (nine was greedy)
    regular cable routing
    size specific rear center
    Stayed with 30.9 seatpost
    Reasonable ST angle
    lower COG
    No superboost crap

On paper, hits everything that I want, but that’s not enough to spend right now.

Ya, that thing kinda makes me want to overbike for the next one. I liked the look of the new Instinct, but that Altitude looks pretty damn good.

The PB article did mention that it is a tad sluggish when going slower/flatter, which I can totally believe.

a positive attitude will not solve all of your problems, but it may annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Freaking out, that color scheme is unsettling. Like strange McDonald's interior design unsettling. Eat and get out.

I'm diggin the new altitude color above, but I sure as heck ain't gonna have mine (which comes in a week or so yeehaw) built with color matching decals, still think that trend is tacky. Also will have rockshox zeb/vivid on mine, so no kashima making it brighter. Looks very good in person otherwise though..

I also managed to get a few days in Moab on the new instinct. It's just a c30 build since it's our shop demo but that bike is fuuuuuuunnnn. I was quite surprised that the cockpit feels a bit smaller than my element even though the reach numbers are about the same. It was a very efficient climber when it was fully pointed up, and really only felt slacker/sluggish on flat pedaling sections of trail, but I'd expect that from a 64~ degree head angle. Obviously downhill it was a star, and the demo I was on only lacked performance in the pricepoint marzocchi fork spec'd on it, had one of my funnect Ahab laps ever. Also love that the new instinct is one of the only bikes in its category where the frame is lighter than the previous.

I think it's a great looking bike, but that green doesn't do it for me. I like the look of the Carbon 99 build on the Pinkbike article, though!

It's basically a Santa Cruz with the added annoyance of a concentric bb pivot.

    It does look sexy though.

    Just curious, why an annoyance?

Concentric BB pivot means you have a couple of big bearings in a high load area (suspension forces + drivetrain forces) that's very prone to contamination, and it's a semi-unusual bearing size that requires special tools to replace. Also means you have a bunch of extra complication in an area that's already prone to creaking.

It's not the end of the world, but it's kinda annoying.

Yeah I hear ya. Guess lucky me that I have a whole shop at my disposal. Suppose we'll see how this new bike holds up in that regard.

Yeah, my current bike has a concentric BB pivot. As did my bike before this one. And a couple others that I had before that. So apparently I'm not annoyed enough to stop buying them. But still, I'd kinda rather they didn't.

I thot the concentric BB was to allow chain tensioning while running a single speed ?

Bullit with full power, Santa Cruz havent changed anything so I'm pretty much already wearing the tight shorts

A concentric BB is an insert that goes in an oversized BB shell that has an insert that is drilled off center that the BB is mounted in and lets you tension the chain by rotating the insert around in the shell. I believe with a concentric BB pivot the main pivot wraps around the BB 'shell' and uses that create a gigantic oversized pivot point for the rear triangle.

A concentric BB places a suspension pivot around the bottom bracket.

An eccentric BB places the bottom bracket in an offset carrier which can be rotated, which can be used to tension the chain on a single speed.

I have seen a prototype (I think from Specialized?) that uses a concentric BB pivot with an eccentric BB carrier within it (which was used to alter geometry by moving the BB location, not tension a singlespeed).

edit: This isn't the one I was thinking of, but here's a pic of a concentric pivot (the outer part connected to the chainstays) mounted to an eccentric BB (the inner part - the eccentric BB can be rotated by loosening the pinch bolts)

Continuing the spirit of this thread…since I am considering a 160ish frame to go with a 170 fork.

Trying to be open minded about a high pivot (Claymore maybe). For a lot of the same reasons Rideit listed, the new Altitude looked interesting.

    As does the Dreadnought V2.

Yeah, my first thought was, Hey RM, Santa Cruz just called and said, "WTF, dude?!"
