I'm going to be working on the Dark Hallow Reroute Project the next few months and I'm curious about what's best for riding and shuttling up there right now.
I'm also going to go ride thunder Mountain and look at the other area options. I'll probably tick a ride off or two every two weeks while on hitch so any rec's would be appreciated.
Bunker Creek got rebuilt over the last couple years. It's not gnarly as Dark Hollow was but was pretty fun. A new extension was being built last fall. Only problem with that ride is its a long ass shuttle or you have to ride back up the trail or a dirt road out of Panguitch Lake.
Blowhard is a good shuttle descent. Wasn't my favorite trail but is an easy shuttle.
Dark Hollow was my favorite descent off the peak. I'd heard an extension was going to be built much of the way down 2nd Left Hand Canyon. Is that part of your project? It was a few years ago I heard about that.
If the bike park is open it's a pretty fun little park and worth spending some time at. They used to have a shuttle service as well which was $10 or 15 per lap. You can connect from Brian Head Peak into the Bike Park
There are other trails around not part of the park that are pretty good. The Sydney Peaks trail is nice and has great views.
Lowder Creek trail could be done as a shuttle.
A bit further away, Navajo lake is an OK xc loop. More work than I thought it would be. VRRT is the primo trail in the area. It's a long point to point xc ride but parts can be done as a loop with Navajo Lake. It's worth checking out at some point. There are some new-ish trails above Cedar City that I've heard good things about. C Trail is the original "shuttle" trail there. Decent vert but was pretty meh, not really worth the time IMO. The Three Peaks trail system is ok. They have some features built which make it kinda fun, otherwise its all XC. For the best riding head an hour south to St George or a bit further to Gooseberry.
If you make it out to Thunder Mtn and want a bit more, you can add Losee/Cassidy. It's more of a backcountry feel with far fewer people on it. Or if you want some punishment and big rides, check out Grandview Trail. You can turn onto that near the bottom of Thunder Mtn. That quickly turns into a 40 mile loop.
One are I've not had time to check out that I want to is a bit north around Eagle Point ski resort. There are a bunch of trails nearby that look like they go above tree line and are open to bikes. Probably lots of hike a bike but looks like there could be some solid descents too.
