Western NY is what Ontario & Quebec Canadians imagine life would be like if they were part of the US.

Whatever moran made that map doesn’t understand is that there is cny, wny, capital district, etc, but they are all part of upstate

I will make my stand that western ny is not upstate - nobody who actually was born in NY outside of down state NY believes this

There are more down staters than upstaters - but those of us born in upstate and western ny know this

There are parts of central ny that are in upstate and some that are in southern Ny. I think of central ny as the leather stocking region
