Anybody can make a hot dog.
Yeah, but only New Way (Dirty John's to locals) can make a dirt dog.

What makes Dirty John's so great is:

    -The legendary [dirt] sauce
-The seasoned crock that said sauce is ladled out of
-100+ years of existence on a shitty bar street where dozens of businesses have come and gone in its tenure
-Local hot dog rivalry (Dog Shack sucks)
    -Their availability at 4am
-The regional belief that you'll feel fine after a long night of drinking as long as you slam a half dozen dogs before you go home
-The original location's next door proximity to cab company (now across the street)
-The fact that you need to specify "plain" if you don't want sauce/mustard/onion
-They give people shit for ordering ketchup unless they're a child

You really should just go see for yourself. You won't be disappointed, unless you like ketchup.

Speaking of Stewart's gear, I haven't been able to un-see the limited edition egg nog-colored beanie since my buddy sent me a pic the other day. Somebody in marketing deserves a few extra scratch offs in their stocking for this one.

That cap looks like a quality piece of cold weather gear.

Look as far as hot dogs go, every place claims the same thing.

That ain’t nothing but a Detroit Coney, which is just a Skyline Chili dog from Cincinnati without the good cheese on top.
I still call it The Jake.

That's a thread about regional hot dog manufacturers. New Way doesn't manufacture hot dogs, they assemble dirt dogs with wieners produced elsewhere. And everyone already knows that Hoffman is best regional hotdog manufacturer in the universe so it's a dumb thread anyway.

The Detroit Coney came from NY.

The word "Detroit" is just there to serve as a symbolic asterisk that correlates to a footnote saying, "Not the real thing."

    See: Detroit Style Pizza.

So you order the hot dog with mustard and then get your ketchup packets out from fast food restaurant drive thru runs?

Coneys were the small, native rabbits that lived in the section of Brooklyn we call Coney Island. Detroit stole it.

Doesn’t seem important to me, as long as it’s in there someplace

Now that I think of it, I've never questioned the provenance of the meat in my coneys.

I’ll have to visit New Way tomorrow… we’re lucky to have Famous Lunch in nearby Troy, serving up the little miracles made by Hembold’s.

    It's almost claimed lives.

Back in grade school, an older racer kid we knew bought some K2 910 DH skis in 220cm. He was gonna huck The Wall.
One night we see him coming just as some guy enters the target zone in a traverse. Holleee chit he's gonna spear him if he doesn't clear.
Sailed directly over the guy's head by 12". I never looked at The Wall the same way after that.

I don’t think HV is ready for something more intense than the Wall.

I will say though, getting marooned at HV during a Christmas blizzard about 5-6 years ago with only 100 other skiers or so while the highways were all closed by the Troopers and it was snowing over an inch an hour just lapping the Falcon/Eagle Chair was one of my favorite ski memories.

Also, later that evening driving on a closed Southern Tier Expy over Chautauqua behind two plows and an Statie escort completely snow blind was one of the most terrifying driving experiences of my life.

Yeah I don't want to hear any bullshit whining from CO people about driving on the Front Range. Chains are for pussies.
You haven't experienced anything until you've driven the treacherous mountain passes of Little Valley in winter.
Hell, one small miscalculation and you drive off the bridge into Chautauqua Lake and they won't find you till your body washes up on shore of the Casino in Bemus Pt the following spring. If at all.

One of my best ski episodes was at Vernon Valley NJ, snowed all day at about 20° so it was soft with 6 or so inches. I got there about 4 and it started dumping, by 6 it was knee deep and 14° and I was lapping the S Chair. Lapped it until 8 and it was thigh deep! I skied in the maze to go back up and the liftie slid a chain in behind me and the two of us lapped it for another hour. Fucking glorious

For all its faults, that place does serve a purpose. I wonder how much they have open now.
