the mustard so good they had to name a bridge upstate and downstate after it.

there's gotta be angels singing when you open that box.
Yesterday I actually drove through some Southern Tier towns I’d never been to before.
Not sure if it constitutes peak foliage but ...
If the town names make you scratch your head, you might be upstate
somebody mentioned Roscoe has good fishing
The Southern Tier is part of upstate
Once I reached Buffalo, me and junior explored around the city a little since he’s been more or less stuck on campus. I’m sorry but Buffalo isn’t really a spectacular city as far as I can tell.
We checked out the waterfront. That’s Canada over on the other side there.
As previously noted, we got dinner at the Anchor Bar. Apparently these guys have a dispute with another wings joint called Duff’s regarding who invented Buffalo Wings. I had Duff’s when I dropped Junior off in August so, while I have no idea who invented them, I have concluded that Duff’s is putting out a superior product currently. Anchor Bar was still really good though
Paula’s doughnuts: the secret ingredient is love
The drive from Buffalo to Albany on the Thruway is pretty boring. I got my Albany business squared away and took 87 back south. All good
That looks enticing. We should all meet up over in the condiments thread (it exists) to discuss. I will however, stand behind my rec of the O.G. Stadium Mustard as the world champ as firmly as I did my recommendation of Voodoo Chips that I believe Riser (?) ended up ordering and enjoying.
Right? Something about a real-deal, legit donut shop and that mid-fall patchy grey sky takes me back to my youth. I know that place without knowing that place, ya know?
Then I gotta get upstate.
I'm due to add another couple thousand miles on the car soon anyway. I love a road trip and if they haven't locked down the state to citizens of mine then I'm down.
I still call it The Jake.
For once and for all, the term "upstate" only comes from someone in the city. Therefore, their max reach is Metro North.
Buffalo, are you fucking kidding me? I'll give you Albany at best. But anything further north is Canada to NYC, and West is not Up.
It is settled. It is a self-centric term created by city folk. The Daks are alone the size of VT. Does not compute to someone in Bensonhurst.
And, I will go on record that everything north west of the hudson valley has shit for food or beer. The wine however.
The Mohawk Valley has excellent grub food, it's kind of a tentacle of the NY metroplex octopus.
For the record.
looks to me like you porpoisely avoided rochester..... in fact, almost none of your trip was even in the upstates. what the fuck?
this scholarly article should definitively settle this argument, once and for all..
Binghamton is not part of upstate New York
People should be aware that it's actually part of the central Southern Tier

you're welcome.

My bad muted, I was winging it from memory on who actually ordered. It is in fact unique in that it's the original brown stadium mustard that originated in Municipal Stadium in 1969 and is now served pretty much nationwide. It's made only with brown mustard seed, no sugar, fat or anything else. And it's fantastic.
Much like Buffalo's wings, there is a competing claim and a fracture in the family tree between Stadium Mustard and Bertman's Ballpark Mustard, as to the true O.G. Both excellent though. Upstaters love the shit on their brats n pretzels.
Clevelanders, be them Poles, Slovaks, Germans (both northern and bavarian), Ukranians, Czechs, Irish, English, non-orthodox Israeli, west siders and east siders and Italians all swear by it on their brats, pierogis, red hots, foot longs, kosher dogs, metts and sausages. It's probably the one thing the populous can agree on.
I still call it The Jake.
Upstate + mustard? It must be Weber’s.

I love all these pics upthread showing Upstate with the leaves. Yeah it looks great 2 weeks a year, no doubt. I'll give you that.
Here come 7 months of Grey As Fuck!
