Ooh, I should get one. It'll fit right between the seats in the Caravan.

@brownski it sure does. One thing they have going for themselves is they draw from pretty far away like a resort much bigger than they are. I think that 1994 is the last time I skied there, a few weeks after that awesome night, I've ridden there a few times and yeah it's good but I don't think it's as good as the bro-brahs think it is.

I've been over at Powder Ridge in CT a few times this month because my wife gets a booth at their craft fairs and they have the most amazing thing going there now. They can make "snow" with the temps well into the 40s with this 3-story high supercooler at the top of the tubing park. It basically makes ice cubes that get pulverized and sent through snowmaking hoses at high pressure then spread with a wide ported nozzle on snowguns. At the beginning of this month they had a 5 foot base and were selling lift tix. There were plenty of tubers but snowboard kids were also all over the half of the hill that didn't have lanes on it and there were 2 film crews doing photo shoots. This weekend on Saturday they were open for skiing from top to bottom after burning 1.6 million gallons of water in three nights. They also have the restaurant and bar and all of these fabric igloos that people hang and eat and drink in and there are a couple of these gazebo things that can be rented for a variety of things, my wife has one rented for MLK weekend for her craft booth. They have ski-bikes in the winter and it's becoming a destination spot for mt biking in the summer. I hope they keep the Bavarian Garden and tasting room building open all winter too. It's so nice to see an old ski area transitioning into the new no-snow regime we live in and considering that there are only 4 ski areas left in CT it's doubly awesome that the owner "gets it" and loves it when he sees parents dropping the kids off to spend the day in his playground.

So a short trip to Upstate a few days before Christmas and the alternative energy and electric is transforming some of the hill sides.Name: IMG_20231222_103214353.jpg

The little bit of snow you see there is long gone.

Yes. Talked to a snowmaker yesterday, he said when they start blowing again they have to repair the snow they have before they can get more stuff open

I read an article a few days ago about the old Bald Hill and High Point ski areas where they determined that Upstate started at Rt 110 in Huntington. Nope

Thought so. I would always ski under that lift when we had fresh snow. Had a pass there for 5 years. Loved Lab.

reporting back on the christmas gift swap, my entry was a Bills themed goodie box (beer koozie, 2 pairs of Bills socks, some BBQ sauce and tailgate spice rub, and a box of Josh Jax - kinda like Flutie Flakes but more like blue and red Apple Jacks); it was a hit. I ended up getting a jar of Turkey Joints and Utica Coffee Co. beans, not bad. I definitely appreciated all of the recommendations; thanks to everyone who replied.

took a new route on the way from the Roc up to VT for New Years; I-90 to Amsterdam, Rt. 67 up thru 'Toga, then Rt. 4 up thru Ft. Ann and Whitehall - beautiful cruise thru the Upstates. Passed at least a dozen Stewarts and popped in to one to grab some UC's and various dairy products. All in all a successful holiday season in Upstate NY. Cheers all.

Why? I have some fond memories of that road. Successfully launching my moms Mercury Marquis over a fence, into a field and out to a farm road with no damage other than some clumps of grass and cow poop stuck underneath was one for the books.

Not enough places to pass slow moving traffic. I always get stuck.

I lived right on 67 as it comes into Ballston Spa. Fam was still in the 'cuse so I did that commute every weekend.

'xactly right. Worse in the summer with all the traffic at the outlets.

Better to stay on the Northway to Paradox and take 79 to Ticonderoga and then over the Crown Point Bridge.

Right, but, I Iike VT 22A more than I like that extra stretch of 87 above Lake George if you go through Crown Point. Honestly, it all sucks. I hate cars.

FWIW….as a frequent visitor, having kids up in Burlington.

I do the Ft. Ann/Whitehall/22A on the way up( cuz it’s usually really early)…..and then on the way home….I’ll do the Rt.17/Crown Point/Eagle/Paradox way home to get to 87 South somewhat faster…

Both ways kinda suck/ especially if you get behind someone really slow., so I try to switch it up on all our trips…
