What sort of weird ass research are they doing at RPI?

My father in law handled an outboard engine the same way - when a bunch of alarms went off cause the prop was bound up by weeds he just yanked out the alarm.

    Bingo bongo.

Your question is a distraction. The real question is why didn't they follow good protocols and split their samples up into multiple freezers that were on different power mains in different locations?

Sure, but what were they doing that required cells to be within a 3 degree window for 20 years? A test tube wooly mammoth?

They were studying the upstates at the cellular level. That’s how deep the division goes on the subject.

    Fact.

agreed… the idea of naming such an important area after what is no doubt only a temporary political construct is fundamentally flawed. We need to use geological formations as reference points if we expect the designation to stand the test of time.

    Fact.

Actually, lots of things. It's really not that special. When I was in college I worked as a programmer in one of the departments in the medical school. Lots of freezers. Lots of things degrade over time if not frozen. It could be as simple as a freshman lab does the same experiment every year and they want the kids to do it from the same stock. The sin here is not backing up their data, to borrow a concept from IT. Single points of failure suck.

Ok. Phew. Just a freshman science project.
I was worried mutant wooly mammoths might escape the facility and be runing around Troy mucking up traffic on Rt 7.

You say that like you've never been to Troy and seen what walks around on the streets.

I bet a wooly mammoth would really spice things up though.

    Fair.

Thing #3 wanted to go to RPI but WPI offered him a cheaper price, as he was accepted to both. So we won't be going to Troy anytime soon.

I was just tryin' to rile you guys up, I know the folks on this thread are quite territorial about the upstates - I'll be making the pilgrimage home to the Roc tonight; Genny's will be flowin' at the Jazz Fest tomorrow and Saturday, cheers all

If you really wanna derail this thread and talk about MA, then so be it. These days its more of a Boston exurb, what with the commuter train and all. I've always thought of it as central Mass in all it's post industrial decay glory. I-91 seems like a better boundary.

I think 495 and 91 are the dividing lines, so Worcester is central ma. Parts of western ma can look like Upstate, but lack the necessary state of mind and there’s nary a Stewart’s in sight.

This is gonna get us kicked out of Wikipedia.

We have a responsibility to stay focused in this thread now. The days of getting drunk and posting in the Upstate thread are behind us.
