is it the sticker color, or are they scanning every license plate nowadays?!

The Thruway EZpass readers are all plate readers also so it’s probably just a matter of time til expired registrations start getting tickets in the mail. That could add up fast. No more letting shit slide I guess.

I always wondered what was stopping them from issuing speeding tickets if you cover the distance between entry and exit points faster than the speed limit calculated time for that distance?

My old boss used to travel from Roc to Buf twice a week, trying to break thruway land speed records. He used to get EZpass warnings in the mail. No actual tickets. This was 20 years ago.

“What you got to forecast?” host Savanah Guthrie asked Roker at the end of the conversation.
“I got some Utica Club. That’s a good beer,” Roker replied as he walked toward a weather map. “I like that Utica Club.”

You sure about that? They read the transponder and if one isn't detected, they take a photo but I don't think they're actual plate readers which is a whole different technology. The photos they take are really clear. Good cameras for being out in the weather all the time. Had my transponder in the console when I entered NY from Erie, PA last year. The pic they sent me was irrefutable.

At 80 mph I'm thinking they do both - take photo & ping the RFID. If they get RFID response they ditch the photo, or sell it to google.

They probably sell it to google... fun times

I received a few warnings for going too fast through the toll barriers (when they first implemented EZ pass on the thruway).

Obviously it was a safety issue and not a technology issue as they were still able to read my EZPass and send the warning to my account.

Rt 7 in Hoosick is closed for emergency road repair after rain washed out a culvert just past the Stewart’s. MOK got closer to the river this week.

Upstate roads might be worse than eastern Ukrainian roads.
    The skiing sucks.

That’s all I have for updates today.

Report from my youngest grom is that Bristol skied pretty well last night and most of the mountain is open.

I saw the World University Games Super-G on tv from Lake Placid this morning. Couldn’t tell if it was frigid or foggy. Lots of competitors though so I’m sure a good time is being had Upstates this week.

Thinkin Johnny B has his eyes on the place with the bus up the road when that happens.
Always wondered who opened that place up with mok right down the road.

Oh and the shitty pasta place up the street we were discussing a while back has closed , but we knew that was coming.

Ok this might violate the sacred purpose of arguing but if I get to/have to attend one college club ski race at either plattekill or magic mountain, which should it be? Plattekill keeps me in the upstates, I can swing by some family history in Schenectady county but I’ve always wanted to ski magic.

sorry not sorry I don’t have the energy to immerse myself in the ECRC thredz for a better answer.

Obviously depends on snow - when Magic’s in - it’s worth the trip if you’ve never been. Same could be said for Pkill you got your self a six n one half dozen the other. What are the dates?

Plattekill is Feb 4/5; magic is either Jan 28/29 or Feb 11/12

Plattekill is persevering. They got the double side open- though it was just Northface over there.

They sold lots of tickets this weekend- and lessons- in spite of the challenges.

it was one of those days when it seems like there were beginners sprawled everywhere. The top of the triple was like an old Warren Miller movie- people falling every other chair and the liftie just trying to clear the ramp and keep things moving.

I second. Both are very special places. Magic might make a Schenectady detour easier to justify depending on where you’re coming from, and there is a Ted’s on the way, though it seems like there might be a detour involved based on the new info in this thread.

Vigilante bicyclist gets his legs broken and knocked unconscious for calling out a lane blocker... brutal.

The story about cab drivers jumping the line for 10$ in a ruskie organized scene was pretty interesting.
