What have you bought/upgraded today.

After leaving my glasses on a rock I was in the market for some new cycling glasses. I like photochromic lenses as I can keep them on all day in and out of forest etc. I couldn’t swallow the cost of a pair of Smith or Oakley glasses so I went with some ‘Rockbros’ off amazon. Literally 1/5th the cost of Smiths.

I’m actually pretty impressed with them. The sit on my sweetly nose without sliding down and have an unobstructed view. Time will time if they last but so far so good!

Ive been quite happy with julbo photochromics but theyre not cheap. Im kind of wearing them out after a few years though. Do you have a link for the glasses you found?

I just got some oakley jawbreakers with the photochromic lens. I wish it got darker in bring sunlight but on trails in the forest and in the evening and even at night they're great. Pretty sure I would not buy them for msrp though.

Tifosi has some for like $80.

Tifosi are probabl good quality. Finding the right fit with sunglasses can be difficult with online ordering.
My julbos change fairly quick. Once in the trees im good for the day usually. I wouldnt mind a lighter tint for after supper rides. Theyre too dark the last couple hours of daylight. Great for skiing
POC's new photochromics are supposed to change instantly. Havent tried them and theyre probably $$$

I did not know that.

I was referrring to the original composite one, hadn't seen that they re-did it in alloy. I'm sure the durability is improved. Their design concept makes sense on paper but I don't like the ergonomics of the remote at all. Short, stubby paddle with a tighter radius than most. Love their V1 post though, Have it on two bikes. I'm sure the V2 is even better.

I had the Smiths and loved them. Nice light tint when they weren't activated, even in the open on cloudy days. They didn't change super quick though, like 30 seconds IIRC. I still prefer clear anymore. Better for rapidly alternating sun/shadow in forests, and obviously low light. Plus I'm a prescription guy these days. Smith rocks in that dept but no photochromic.

New DPS Evol Factory shock to replace my clapped out CTD. I’m a total shock JONG but I set it up according to the manual and it’s like a new bike. Took it for a ride on my usual trails and set two PRs (one up, one down) despite the blown out conditions.

Just built my first wheel

DT 350 Boost rear hub
Sapim Race 2.0/1/8 with DT Swiss Brass nipples 3x lacing
Carbon Chinese rim- 34mm inner

Went together great! Trued up really close, brought it to my LBS for the final tension and true, but I got it well within 1mm laterally and vertically with pretty even spoke tension. It's addicting, I just want to keep building them.

Upgraded the littlest groms bike to 1x11 XO with an oval ring. Shifts so much better!

Bought some time ago, I finally recovered enough dexterity and hand strength to complete the build. The key was a genius trick found on youtube to set recalcitrant tubeless tires, I managed to do it one handed:



2020 Orbea Occam M10, pretty much stock except for an Absolute Black oval rings, 54t ratchet upgrade in the DT350 hub, DHF/Dissector combo, el cheapo foam grips, some silly Wolftooth bling, and a big old Manitou Mezzer to replace the FOX34 that came stock.

It needs some bar plugs and I may replace the dropper with a Oneup to get a bit more travel.

We're now a dual Occam household, Ms Boissal is loving hers so I have high hopes for this beast.

6 week follow-up with ortho on Thursday, I'm hoping I'll be allowed to get out of the brace and start rehab right away, probably another month until I can ride. I think there's not much that is worse for a wrist that MTBing, maybe tennis?
I'm gonna have to un-retire from climbing I think, I'm going crazy and obsessively cleaning Ms Boissal's bike every time she gets back from a ride is bad for my mind!

Nice, I have an older Occam TR. Not great on the chunk downhills, but I need to dial in my suspension and yours looks quite different than mine anyways. I love mine overall, and have a Reign with a coil rear for heavy duty usage, and frickin' love the Orbea on the uphills.

Rallon apparently climbs just about as well as the Occam and is a wildebeast on the down. The only reason I stayed away is that I don't want to give myself more reasons to go real fast and crash super hard. Sticking to 140mm travel seemed a bit wiser, my Primer felt dangerously fast at 140/130 and I'm not smart enough not to ride as fast as I can. I also ride a fair amount of dumb stuff that requires extensive bike carrying and the few lbs increase for the Rallon would be noticeable. A large Occam with the big fork is right around 30.5 lbs, the medium Ms Boissal rides with the stock fork is 29 on the nose. I know, who weighs their bike... I do, I weigh all the things.

Huh, mine probably weighs 25 pounds.

The Occam has undergone the standard trail bike treatment of the past few years (longer slacker beefier), going from lean-and-mean XC oriented 120ish travel to full-on trail hog with more travel, piggy back shock, beefier everything. It think the Oiz is much closer to the Occam TR these days...

Basically you start with the tire in the center groove of the rim then set the bead on about 1/2 of the tire on each side with a tire lever. It took me a minute to do for a dry mount too (no sealant, no soapy water) and I didn't need to get my HR to 150 like the guy in the video, I think I could have made it work with a hand pump.
I've had good luck in the past inflating a tire sitting in the center groove with a foot pump but this set was not having any of it despite my best efforts.

Finished building this up today finally after waiting on some Ridewrap. The frame is actually a loaner as I’ve had a MegaT frame in order for a few months which won’t come until November (which I will probably cancel as we will be carrying the WeAreOne frames when they come out).

Replaced the der cable on my 5.5 it is so worth doing because the internal routing of a continuous 5 ft length of cable can have so much friction, it is probably even more worth changing than a bike that has 3 short sections of cable,

everything was working fine but the new cable is much easier on the thumb mussels which you don't realize till you change it ... the friction sneaks up on you

Still a good choice. Nit sure if wao and new forbidden is the same but id imagine the new forbidden will be released by then as well. Lew Buchanan is racing it in this upcoming ews
