My buddy got the new stumpy 15 so he sold me his stumpy evo frame for dirt cheap. Finally got it built up with some components off my altitude frame that I sold, then upgraded a few things. Full XT drivetrain, brakes, oneup v3 dropper, nobl tr36 rims laced to the new oneup hubs, and eewings Ti cranks. weighs only 30.5 pounds without tools/bottle. Going to get much more use than the altitude for me, I only go to the bike park maybe 7-8 days a summer.

You'll notice the new XL air can on the super deluxe. It really is a big upgrade, feels like a mini Vivid Air. At 25% sag I almost felt like it was low on air at first, but that's just how plush the first bit of the stroke is, it's like riding on a cloud.

Stoked that oneup gave us another ratchet hub design, sure it's not groundbreaking but we know it's reliable and it's cool that we have a ratchet hub you can get shiny colors in vs DT's standard colors. I got the grey and it's a beaut!

Did you do the valving upgrade also? I've got a Vivid on my bikes but was thinking of upgrading the SDU that one of them came with to see if I could get it close enough. I've got a Lyrik up front on the same one which I love, and was thinking it'd be a better match.

no but I did buy the shock specifically tuned for a stumpy from rockshox.

fun fact, if you order a shock directly through them you can actually call and ask for different tunes before it ships out, free of charge. Something I learned in a STU class.

Interesting, you might actually have the upgraded valving if it's a '24/'25 that you just got from them. I tried ordering the parts for both through my local shop back in like May when they were released but the shop was too small / incompetent to get them, so I just canceled the order. I might go ahead and get the parts through a retailer and try it then, it's only like $130 for the can + valve + shims. My shock already has the OEM Santa Cruz tune for the bike and HBO shaft.

I really want to try the XL Aircan for my v5 5010. I think it would take a bike I am already really psyched on and take it to the next level.

You convinced me - ordered an an XL air can to try also. I've got my Vivid on that bike really well set up and no complaints with it, but if I can't tell the difference and it's 200g lighter, why not?

Thanks to everyone who answered questions in the ask the experts thread to help me build my first bike from the frame up. Pretty stoked on how it rides.

Upgraded to Dominions on my trail bike last year, and fought with them all year and just couldn't get them to behave correctly. Finally crashed hard enough that I walked in and paid full retail for some TRP DHR evos.

I've never been so happy with a brake. Tons of power, great modulation (though heavier lever feel), and setup was dumb easy. They obviously put some thought into how to make the system really easy for consumer installation. Also been doing a good bit of wet riding and they are nearly silent. The 2.3mm rotors actually feel significantly beefier than anything else I've held, overall quite pleased.

My one complaint is there is a piece of plastic in the lever clamp which (maybe its removable, I haven't checked) made it so I had to run the levers tighter than I usually would or else the lever flexes a good bit.

When you fly through the oem resin pads and switch to a semi or full metallic pad, they get a little noisier, but still have that amazing power and feel without super noticeable fade. You won't regret this purchase.

    Also, fuck dot fluid.

Interesting. Did you have A4s? I’ve read great things but I tried a set last year and they made me less confident than my XTs. I’m looking for a brakeset for my new bike. The TRPs also have mixed reviews. The Mavens look great if they can be set up correctly, but they haven’t been out long enough. Hoping Shimano comes out with their new brake soon.

In my initial search I couldn't find a mixed review on the TRPs, but got the Dominions because I knew a guy. TRP seems really popular in Utah, and sort of novel everywhere else, they are at the end of the day just fancy Tektros.

The Dominion was so different than other brakes that it took a lot to get used to, I could see disliking them after a parking lot ride. The power comes on really strong at the beginning of the stroke, then kind of backs off towards lock up.
I did have the A4s, and they are good brakes, just didn't work for me. I was told a few times I was the only one having the issues reported. If you like light lever feel with gobs of power the Hayes are a winner.

I looked at the Mavens but was turned off by previous Avid lever feeling experiences. I'd like to try a set though.

The blue performance resin pads? I really like them, for resin they work great in the wet and on long downhills. I think I have around 400 miles on the current set and they have some life left still. I have a set of the red semi metallics that I haven’t opened yet so I guess I’ll find out if I like them as much.

I did ‘upgrade’ the lever on my TRP’s to the aftermarket Freedom Coast’s, I just couldn’t get along with the reach on the factory levers. After I did that I can easily say they are the best brake I’ve used.

My beautiful Ti hardtail died; found a crack behind the head tube, local Ti builders were not optimistic about fixing it properly, even with a new head tube. Being the second owner of a four year old frame from a small builder in England that doesn't even work in Ti anymore, I had to go shopping. Found a new Process 134 CR DL frame for cheeeep and was able to swap most everything over, save HS, BB and a brake hose. It's slightly overforked at 150mm, but still pretty planted on steep climbs.

I've never not owned a hardtail. Not going to say I won't miss it for a lot of my riding, but this thing is damn fun.

    Going the opposite direction…

Ordered my first Hardtail in a decade and first ever Ti Bike.

Revel Tirade in an XT build. Excited to say the least.

    Got this for wifey’s birthday.
My longest standing riding buddy does development for Giant. This XS was in the U.S. for a photo shoot, (but never unboxed). It is a euro only model, so it was the actual landed Giant Global cost, which was like 65% off of retail.

To say she was stoked is quite n understatement.

So, I tested rotating and saving the images in all four orientations in my editor, but somehow they all rotate into this orientation. (iPad).

    WTF?

You need a crappier editor that does "destructive" rotation. Modern editors don't actually rotate the image if they can avoid it, they just change the metadata to say "hey, show this picture rotated 90 CCW"...but the forum software doesn't understand. Or maybe the forum is stripping EXIF data for privacy reasons (like removing geotagging) but that also removes the rotation info.

I think a workaround is to arbitrarily slightly crop it and then save it. Cropping may force it to save a new file and then you'll be set.
