Not in January, but once we knew where TB ended up, all those things seemed pretty plausible. It was pretty obvious the Pats would be bad, the Bills were clearly trending up in a division that was suddenly theirs for the taking, and Brady picked a team in Tampa that looked good on paper.

We had Tampa Bay fans on here? I thought they were all NE fans who are snowbirding with Brady.

Give Tampa all the credit - they gave Tom the best weapons he had since 2007 and he delivered a tremendous season. When Antonio Brown is your #4 WR and your #2 RB is coming off a 1600 rushing + receiving season, you've got some serious playmaker depth.

Pats weren't even that bad. Considering how many opt outs and injuries they had, as well as the complete ineptitude of their passing game, it's pretty impressive they won 7 games.

Would it kill the NFL/media to not be so fucking lazy and just give the MVP to the winning QB? There's got to be at least three dudes on the Bucs D that deserve it.

Three FG's they held that offense to

I think Gronk was pretty deserving. If he had scored the third TD, which I would have bet my house on was going to happen instead of AB at the time, he probably would have.

Otherwise, there is no way in hell Tampa sniffs the NFC championship let alone wins the Super Bowl without Tom, so in this case, I don't really have much to gripe about. He played basically perfect football, at age 43, in the biggest game.

I'd rather it be this way instead of, say the NBA, where Lebron obviously has been the MVP of the league for about 15 years each and every year, yet people try and justify plenty of other guys on the only premise of variety. Variety doesn't win games, talent does.

Antonio Brown is a little bitch. But how the hell did Leonard Fournette make it through waivers? That dude has been trucking' fools the last few games.

My give a fuck meter for the NFL has been low this year. Happy for TB12 and the Bucs. Lifelong Pats fan, but I root for the home team for sure. TB12 and Gronk being here has been sweet, but it has been such an odd year, it was hard to get excited. I enjoyed watching him take a team that had a ton of talent, and making them the best they can be. The coaching staff had a lot to do with that too, but Tom has a way of making all the pieces work together.

You created hope and then crushed it with abandonment..... run play up the middle for 2 yds, x3, punt. rinse and repeat.

RIP Coach. You were the best Browns Coach until Kevin Stefanski came to town.

You gave us The Drive and The Fumble.

    Thanks.

Same here, his was the last successful stewardship of the Browns before this last year. That was 34 years ago. Respect.

Today's insane stat of the day goes to Patrick Mahomes, who apparently ran a staggering 497 yards behind the line of scrimmage in the Super Bowl.

    What?

I thought Mahomes put up a good fight. He made a couple of throws after scrambling and just before being sacked, while laying out almost horizontally, that hit his receiver in the face mask when they were in or near the endzone. Who knows how the game might have changed if Andy Reid had done the obvious thing running the ball more or just using a back as an extra blocker and if some of those catches had been made.

In the post game interview Mahomes looked shell shocked, like he just survived a bombardment.

When I was coaching HS ball the kids would always ask me to run those Coach Marty plays. We did..it was fun. Thanks coach for making the game fun.

Most of the season. Know who was #2? Also Mahomes @ 495 against the raiders. Crazy...

Holy shit, and people think Lamar Jackson is unsustainable.

Not saying Mahomes isn't an incredible freak of a talent, as pointed out, he damned near made many of those scrambling throws, but you've got to be gassed as shit running almost half a klick before even passing the line of scrimmage.

That one throw where he was laid out laterally seemed to surprise his receiver that he got the ball there and he wasn't ready for it.

A retired O lineman on the Pat Macafee show today basically blamed the coaches for not running the ball and trying to throw the whole game which exposed the banged up O line.

Makes sense to me. It’s a lot easier to make run blocking calls than pass pro calls, and making them honor the run would get them out of that two deep look or whatever they were doing in the secondary.

This running the ball more stuff screams armchair qb. Like running straight into a wall of JPP, Barrett and Vea for a 3 yard loss is better?

They've got multiple <4.4 receivers and Kelce. That's who the offense flows though, not CEH and the ghost of Le'Veon Bell.

At least that's one play where Mahomes doesn't run his ass off, then make a spectacular on-target throw that bounces off the receiver's face mask. But, the timeout on 3rd&2 on the final 2nd half drive was the coaching mistake. 3rd and long you maybe take that timeout, but not on 3rd&2. The game maybe turns out differently if you go to the locker room down 14-9 instead of 21-9. Probably not, but maybe. 21-9 against that Bucs D and your fucked.
