    Finally, NZ is going off!

    Hi Folks,

Its friday afternoon and its snowing Snoooowww Yahoooo I can smell winter, its snowing in the Hills and this could well be a turning point. It looks like it'll be snowing for at least the next 12hrs which is great news. Maybe Saturday could be a goer with westerlies increasing in strength on Sunday. But what does it matter its puking and every field is getting some white love. Keep a close eye on whats happening and and get your selfs up their. Long weekends may be the flavour of the month on Monday.
Here is a quick rundown of the situation in the Craigieburns.

Temple Basin is under seige its snowing heaverly down to about 1100m. Heavy snow is predicted to continue from the west for the next 24hrs. TB will be lapping this up just wait till it clears.

Broken River is being dumped on looking good for the Free Heel fun day on Saturday. Accomadation is available so get on up their you tele heads and try out some new gear and join in the festivities if you can see that is!

Craigieburn Valley has had 15cm's as of 2pm and its still coming thick and fast hopefully this will eliminate the fitness walk. Wait and see is the cry.

Mt Cheeseman reporting good skiing on ridge tow is snowing and looking good.

Porter Heights closed down this afternoon due to high winds and snow and yes its puking their too.

Mount Olympus blizzard conditions! well well probably the pick of the fields at the moment with a really good base 50-70cm above the Hutt and looking good. Little Alaska is going off and dont be scared to bring out the new weapon/s. Theirs plenty of padding. Accomadation is booked out on the field so make sure you phone before planning to far ahead.

Fox Peak is opening tommorrow so if you have never been down under they are waiting for you with more freshies than you can poke a stick at.

Also just a quick reminder that Simon Trotter (avalanche guru) is running a back country snow safety course at Olympus on the weekend of August 20-21. The course meets up at Olympus Lodge on the Friday night Aug 19 and then camps out on the Saturday night. Be a really great weekend and a good intro to back country skiing/boarding!

TC was sooooooo sick this weekend!!!! got in the heli on Monday, another bluebird day. All was well until the last run, when somebody triggered an Avy. Just watched helplessly while Crispin and few others emerged from it unscathed. Everybody turned out ok, but it was gnarly watching guys outrun it

Not so good today. Too warm in most places when a system moved through leaving rain instead of snow. But, it didn't last long though, so the base is still holding well. Hope this next system brings another 60cm of the good stuff. Avy conditions are insane everywhere so the options are limited.

The area pictured here used to never get tracks....out of bounds, sweet terrain...looks like the new chair to the top has made it readily accessible, unless those are tracks from the big mountain comp. Either way I'll know first hand in a couple of weeks...yippee.
