Yeah buddy!
Yeah buddy!
What's the smoke situation like in the Wasatch right now? Have a couple days off this week, looking for a destination where I won't end up in respiratory distress.
Clearing out by tomorrow according to the forecast although there's a new blaze in the Uintas that might change things a bit and nobody's willing to risk a long term forecast right now.
Here's a new NOAA model that has some short term high res forecast for smoke: https://rapidrefresh.noaa.gov/hrrr/HRRRsmoke/
I just stepped outside and it's warm and windy with air thick with lake dust. The smell has a delicate putridness to it you only encounter in the vicinity of the GSL, so refined.
Non stop thunder for the last half hour. No New Fires!
That one might get pretty big if the weather pattern doesn't change. They are just going to let it burn and there is a ton of dead, dry fuel out there from beetle kill.

Yup, it got huge overnight. There is so much bettle kill out there.

I need to go to Utah.
Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?
So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

I think I found these trails over the weekend, but they weren't exactly in PC (close) so maybe I'm not correct...... Either way, the downhill trails we stumbled upon look sick. We rode up em cause we're idiot like that, but planning to go back to rally em next time I'm in the area.
There’s 3 or 4 trails in there.

Color me interested in that^^^^. Or is that one of those Emma Ridge false advertising kind of spots?
I got passed by the two most aggro ebikers I've ever encountered this morning. I was going up Canyon Hollow, passed a gal and got about 50 yards ahead of her when I heard, "DING DING...DING DING DING DING DING DING." Then I hear her say "I hear you, I'm trying to get to a spot to pull over." Palpable condescension trending toward exasperation.
I know what's coming now, so I start keeping an eye over my shoulder. I'm already halfway pulled over as they get close, but the lead guy still gets on the bell hard, "DING DING DING DING DING DING." I just stayed quiet and shook my head. A ways farther up I passed another guy and he said he got the same treatment. Way to live up to the stereotype, guys.
Thanks Carl...happy b day
To the mouth
Few new skidder cuts and lil table jumps on Big Mtn...LCC same same. Fine with ending summer and 4 months of fall.

Well, all of the moon dust is now in another time zone!
Rode PC/Canyons this eve...Major carnage in PC from wind storm...huge tangles of downed trees on Hollys, Upper Ricochet, MM, ...Insurgent had 2 massive piles of huge trees down...and a couple on Drop Kick. Going to take some major chainsaw work to get these clear... some require big hike arounds. Had a buddy who rode over at Deer Valley and said there were a lot of downed trees on Deer Crest too.
Seems that any recent trail report in PC involves having downed trees, guessing not too many trails were spared...going to require a lot of clean up. Watch those jumps and blind corners lots of big limbs and branches all over the trails. heads up out there.
Good riding now that it is much cooler and smoke is gone. Lots of branches on the trails off 89 and I did some chucking as I rode. False fall colors.

The crest surprisingly only had one (massive) tree blocking the trail from guardsman to the top of beartrap. Pretty insane uprooted deadfall not far from the trail though, and tons of small debris everywhere. Prime dirt otherwise. Beartrap itself had two large ones that need a saw, and a number of smaller ones that I moved or rode over. Lower serenity at solitude didn’t fair too well either.
