Finally got around to riding this on Saturday. Good recommendation. One of the longest sustained downhill trails I've ridden in a while. Though I can't recommend riding it at 11am in August... The climb from the trailhead to the top of Ben Lomond is no joke.

Up Perry Canyon to Grizzly Peak then across to Willard Peak and Ben Lomond, and down Northern skyline is one of my favorite rides.

First time I did it I started early, but got numerous goat heads at bottom of Perry and had to limp in to a shop that didn't open until 10 or 1030. Didn't make it back to trail until noon. Barely made it back to the truck before dark.

Wanted to follow up with the Bear Lake trail rec's. I ended up getting a shuttle up to Beaver Mountain and riding Stump Hollow to Richardson's Fork back down to the lake. Overall, it was a pretty fun ride, even if Richardson's Fork is a double track ATV trail. In hindsight, I would have preferred doing Stump Hollow as an out-n-back as it had a nice grade to make for a fast descent, but it was also a really nice climb.

Didn't see a soul on Stump Hollow and only one group of ATVers on Richardson's Fork. Lots of grouse, woodpeckers and other cool birds observed as I climbed Stump Hollow. Jumping in Bear Lake immediately after the hot, dusty ride was the cherry on top.

Anyone know how much rain hit PCMR this afternoon? Wondering if the morning will be a mudder. It came down hard in SLC.

About to head that way myself, I think/hope they’ll be fine. Bountiful trails were absolutely mint after the storm passed yesterday.

Should be perfect by now! Early this morning it was muddy in spots and the roots were a little slick, but quite ideal. Good braking traction. So nice to be covered in mud rather than dust at the end of a ride. Wish I could have stayed longer, because it’ll just get better throughout the day.

It should be good to go for the rest of this season, and at hopefully most of next summer. Get some before that shit grows back!
Thanks for the work, hit it today! Great ride, lots of good stuff in there. If you like tech and steep this is worth checking out.
Saw a guy with a full on high end e-moto on it half way up (just pegs) , figured it was illegal but wasn't sure so I didn't say anything.

FWIW you can park a car at the Bountiful Staging Area and shuttle from there, a Subi, Rad4, etc. is fine on Skyline.

Ha, I rode Parrish again this morning. didn’t see the guy on the emoto though. Having ridden it probably 20 times over the past three years, I actually thought the trail was actually running pretty rough today, something about this last round of storms seems to have really brought the baby heads to the surface. It’s always a bit chossy, but today felt extra loose to me.

Glad you were able to get on it though, the veg is growing back fast and will for sure be annoying again by by mid-next season, and I won’t be living here to trim it anymore!

    What's unmissable at Solitude?

My wife and I are spending our "free" lift day today on the way to Hurricane. So with a week of sandstone coming at us the bikes have old tires and we can't wreck anything, but we need to get some pics that aren't all red rock for once (/entitled first world whine). Probably hitting the road again mid-afternoon.

    WWMR? TIA!

Well, you can pretty much ride all the lift serve in a few hours....so you wont miss anything. If your feeling frisky you can pedal up and do Honeycomb.

Cranky's is 50% off on the entire store now. I was in today and they has an ass ton of Michelin Tires left + a fair amount of other rubber. Intense 951 gravel bikes for $1500
    and XCs for $2100.
Still a pretty good assortment of stuff left.

    Wasatch Dirt Thread

Such a weird sale. Went in the 5th, for the first announced closing date. So much inventory, heard the owner saying “I don’t need the money, nothings getting cheaper, I have friends who will sell the stuff for me after I close”. Didn’t have that on my bike industry bingo card for 2024.

Also, for those sram folks. There are full force axs groupsets and at least 6 gx axs upgrade kits, which will work with XT cassettes. Good deals to be had now that everything is 50.

Pretty sure I’ll have retired and moved by the time any additional work is completed.

Maybe if we all stop pretending this has anything to do with "quality" or "sustainable" trails and everything to do with the rich Karen's in the Avenues not wanting the unwashed in "their" foothills shit can be built.

Also, Brian Maffly at the Trib can die in a fire fueled by raw sewage.

Some folks did a lot of work in upper days. Little rock rolls over the downed trees, and the sidehill washouts are beefed up. I usually consider days a grand adventure from solitude/twin lakes, but always felt it paled in comparison for riding compared to honeycomb and silver. Today definitely moved it up the list a bit!

Days used to be a great DH, then after a couple years of floods and landslides, and no work, it was no longer the gem it used to be. It's not to hear it's getting some love again.

This. Also, nothing they built was any good in the first place.

It was good enough to justify more IMO. As far as mellow machine built XC goes, it's no worse than what is being done in PC, CC, or any other area that doesn't really have the terrain or dirt to support really interesting riding. I personally enjoy riding all that stuff early or late season, it's great for mileage, racking up lots of vert, and learning how to deal with flat gravely corners, poorly designed doubles, etc. Could it be better? For sure. Did it dilute the crowds a bit and separate people/dogs from bikers? Yes. Do we need more of the same? Kinda. Ideally it would be better, but I sure as shit would prefer more miles of this stuff vs no new trails. Riding from the mouth of I80 all the way to Mueller Park on unremarkable trails is a fun day, and throwing in all the weird little trails around it makes it a hoot.
The good stuff in the foothills is mostly old fall line hiking trails full of jank, or gullies even more full of jank. No chance any money is going to fund the constructions of more of these.
