Dry creek to 19th was great early this morning before the sun hit it. Some pretty big frozen ruts here and there from folks getting caught after the thaw. Nice to see that I am not the only one having a hard time finding the stoke to make it up skiing with the chaos and mediocre conditions. Was feeling guilty to still be riding my bike.

We live west of downtown and ended up going home down past the zoo to 3300 south, then across Parleys trail to the jordan river trail. Was impressed by the minimal amount of riding on main roads to cross so much of the city, might be a good time of year for creative urban/trail link-ups with only so much dry single track around.

Yeah the east side trails are the real deal. Shooting gallery was a little greasy but fine. I’ve ridden the XC stuff and don’t really care to again unless forced.

The lady said Snowbird was quite bad today and very flat light. I’m sure I could have made the best of it but mostly I’d rather bike off it’s not gonna be soft snow.

    hell yea buddy!
Do I detect a lot of anger flowing around this place? Kind of like a pubescent volatility, some angst, a lot of I'm-sixteen-and-angry-at-my-father syndrome?

    fuck that noise.

Didn't make it before the snow but went up there today cause it was too nice not to hop on the bike.
Parked at W Grandeur and rode the new BST to the top then did a couple more laps as per your map. 99% dry getting there with packed snow on the N facing switchbacks and non sticky to bone dry dust everywhere else. The gully was all snow though. Good thing there was a track in there, kinda felt like following an invisible buddy. That almost bit me in the ass at the car drop though, I was following the track and riding way faster than I should for a first go, never saw the drop coming. Good thing I didn't have enough time or traction to pull the brakes, I'd have face planted for sure. Instead I said a hail mary and landed in the same spot he did.

Overall I really liked it, by far the best trail on that section of BST. That's not saying much but this thing would be good pretty much anywhere around SLC. There are a couple of sneaky moves that make you think and take a bit of commitment, some sections where I could see carrying serious speed if you knew the trail well, and really nothing to complain about. Reminded me of a steeper techier Tio Bob. The approach has steep bits but is 100% rideable, making for quick packs. 5 stars, will ride again. Any plans to take it higher? It would be unpleasant HAB to get there but at least there's the old dirt road and no brush to fight with....

Went to go ride Shooting Gallery at Eagle Mountain, and maybe I did the lap wrong but there seems to be a fence in the way now.

The good news is my new bike can survive being thrown over a fence, so that's neat. Also I don't remember fences being so pointy at the top.

Anyways that was a fun trail, bummer it seems to be hard to lap now.

^nice Boissal...yeah, It turned out to be a decent little trail, a lot packed in for the amount of vert...good for a few hot laps....this time of year cant complain. ...Once you get to know the trail it gets interesting real quick carrying more speed....should be a good little race track once it gets on strava think people will have fun going for KOM's on it

Would love to have something drop from the ridge above, think it could become a classic like Bobsled with some more vert, but would be some serious effort to build a climbing trail and the hike a bike gets sucky above Weather Station. No plans yet to go higher but the potential is there....maybe some other people will get motivated.

The fence popped up sometime in the past couple weeks, brand new fuckery from the locals. Can't even begin to understand what bothers them, nobody's riding through their yards (which are also fenced), and the traffic isn't exactly high enough to be a bother. Standard case of moving next to an established trail then bitching about it and getting it closed. Fuckwits.
The alternative is to hang a right at the bottom of Flintstone/SG and follow the dirt road back to the top of the plateau. Lots of crisscrossing paths in the flats, many gates, then a steep section that even ebikers can't clean. I've gotten annoyed enough at that climb that I've taken OHV "trails" that fade out 2/3 of the way up the hill and bushwacked the rest. It sucks a bit more but the vegetation is sparse so you don't get too tangled up and you shave a bit of time. It sets you up OK to do laps on SG but going all the way to Flintstone gets tedious.

Went to ride the W side of Lake Mtns a couple days ago. Gravity Well took a bit of a beating with the spring runoff, the awesome lower gully has a mean rut in it now. Punisher was as good as ever, it's seeing lots of moto traffic now with many B lines developing. Doesn't change the ride down, makes it slightly easier to push up. The crux has gotten significantly less techy with the removal of 2 giant rocks that were really hard to maneuver around. Guess sanitation plagues the moto world as well...

I'm preemptively taking myself out of the KOM running, I guarantee I'm too dumb to play that game without getting hurt
Re: uphill trail, I agree, building it would be heinous, and pushing up the old road would be character building to the say the least. Even the more legit hiking trails up there are a pain on foot, doing them with the bike on your back is muy caca.

Pretty sure the fence went in to keep to keep shooters in vehicles out. They're the ones who got the whole area shut down a few years ago. I think the state had to haul out like 20 tons of garbage. Shooting out there is now expressly illegal and supposedly enforced. When we were out there last week though, sure enough, just as we dropped in into SG, the shooting started. Dipshit ammosexuals. So now there's a fence. As adamant as those assholes are about blasting away and leaving their trash out there, I wouldn't be surprised if the fence gets taken out at least once.

It is wild. I'd be out riding more if the air wasn't so bad. Can't shake it off like I used to.

That makes sense. Crazy that these douches can't be bothered to go a bit further than what is damn near a neighborhood now...
First time I rode EaMo 6 or 7 years ago I watched a dude and his 2 kids shooting at cans, no backdrop, with the upper portion of the Deadwood trail right in the line of fire. That's where I was headed, I decided to change plans instead of getting in an argument with 3 armed degens.
I also had a scary experience a few years back when I went to ride Jakarta in the Lake Mtns. I parked in what was clearly the trailhead parking lot, lots of trucks with motos all over, busy place. It was also a war zone with multiple groups shooting in various directions. I watched a family decimate an old TV with a very large gun, politely asked if they minded stopping for a bit so I could go up the trail behind their TV, was told moving was too much of a hassle and I should find a way around them. I doubted they'd give me more than a couple minutes before getting back at it (time enough to down a mountain dew) so I packed up my shit and left. People are weird in that area...

A guy I used to work with target shoots a lot and hates those assholes with a passion. He brings reusable plate targets, picks up his brass to reload, and if they really want to blow some shit up they'll buy some watermelons or similar that just rots away or gets eaten by critters. I cannot even begin the fathom the mindset of people who think nothing of blasting an old TV to smithereens and just leaving it there.

Speaking of dickhead target shooters, fuck those guys. I live right below Skyline Drive in Bountiful, which how you access Bountiful B and Parrish Creek trails, and wind up riding up that war zone on the regular. The amount of trash those dumb fucks leave up there is appalling, and wondering if I’m going to catch a stray bullet makes the already unpleasant slog up that road all the worse. Oh and don’t get me started on the mouth breathers in their side by sides…

Funny you mention that, first time I rode up Skyline a few years back we ran into a group shooting at yet another TV. They were parked roadside about halfway up, middle of a turn where the road goes across one of the many gullies. 6 or 7 dudes, 3 ATVs, blasting at it from 10' away, plastic flying everywhere. They kept shooting as the 3 of us pedaled by, giving us dirty looks. We were then harassed by three 15 yo kids on dirt bikes who kept dusting us and generally being dickheads. They turned around when we hit the snow line after calling us a bunch of fags.

Ran zoo to the history museum at 3 today. Both routes up from the zoo had a bit of mud, but the double track sections were rideable. Small mud patch at the top of the museum switchbacks too. Foothills by the new trails mentioned above look snowy still.

Did a Rattler/Gas Line/Limelight loop today. Limelight was ok if your careful, still a bit of ice and some small soft spots.

Pics I saw from yesterday on Shoreline proper made it looks like a sticky muddy mess. Doubt the sled would be any drier but I haven't been up there personally so...
