Anyone going to Mt. Snow NORBA?

We have a couple friends flying out for it and I've heard the course is fun... so we're considering it.

    Anyone out there going?

Any recommendations on where to stay, best place to fly into, etc? Looks like Hartford is cheaper than Boston (though not by that much).

And does anyone have any experience on whether it would make more sense to ship bikes to a hotel or something than try to fly with 4 bikes in tow?

If you go, do not fly into Boston - Hartford is the best choice. It is little more than 1.5 hours (if that) to the Mt Snow area. Boston is at least 2, and that doesn't count the traffic you'll deal with just leaving Logan.

As far as where to stay? Its been awhile since I've been around there, but there were plenty of condos and hotels at the resort itself, and the Manchester, VT area has a bunch of motels and B&B's.

Cool. Mapquest says Mt. Snow is 2 hrs 10 min or something, but they're usually pretty conservative. Albany is closest on the map, but even more expensive. I think flying into Hartford would be a go.

Nice TR, BTW. I'd post that in your thread, but I've got to stick to sprocket rockets this time of year, ya know....

You could try Burlington, but probably more expensive and about the same travel time to Stratton as Hartford.

Which dress are you going to be wearing?

You may want to check Stewart/Newburgh airport as well. Not sure what airline(s) you're looking at but American has direct flights from SLC to Chicago and then Chicago to Stewart. It'd probably be an extra 1/1.5 hours driving than Hartford though.

Man, they moved it to the dry season this year, and I'm sure all the eliteist DH weenies will protect you.

Better course, better scenery, no northerners ....whatever.

Edit: You two around this weekend? Come hit up Empire w/ us.

Never ridden Mt. Snow, but there's most likely a lot of that up there, judging by what else is in the area. If you do come up for it, let me know... I'm sure we can find a place that serves PBR by the pitcher (and it'll be real beer, not that dumbed down Utah stuff).

"real beer" and "pbr" in the same sentance.
I pray for your own sanity that you're kidding.

I've never ridden up there, but the UT guys I know who have said there are lots of rocks and it's a fun course.

The other option is the Masters World Championships in Sun Peaks, BC. Which Canfield says is better than Whistler and less crowded. Hmmm.... I wish I had the time and money to do all of the above.

And yeah, I'm pretty sure PBR is PBR...

The comment comes from two things... One, when I skied with mags at Alta this year, after the lifts closed pitchers of PBR were being drank at a mildly unhealthy rate. Two, I was under the impression that Utah beer is a bit more water and a bit less alcohol than most places in the country.

hopefully I'm done making comments and jokes that only make sense to me now...

    crash, the polka dot one.

Yeah, lots of roots and rocks most likely, but we have great beer and great riding nonetheless. Seriously, fly into Manchester, NH if you're going to do it, as its just a short hop over to So VT from there.

Schuss, I love you cause you're from Hancock, but you're wrong here. Manchester is over an hour from Keene, which is another hour from Mt Snow. In this mag's humble opinion, Hartford is the easier drive - straight shot up I-91. Much preferable to driving through NH on state route 101. I'm standing by my ~90 minute estimate from BDL.

Depends on the day, because if they fly into hartford on friday or something- mucho traffic towards up north.

No worries, I got it. And a good cold PRB after a great day of skiing or biking is good anywhere in the country. I hope we can make it, we are still trying to figure out the logistics and if we can afford it. If we can, I hope we can get some of you guys to come up and show us around. I skied there many years ago but never biked. Krispy is telling me that the course is pretty gnar but really fun. I get worried when guys like him tell me its kinda gnarly.

Any word from Basom or MildBill? I know those guys kill it up there.

Awesome, thanks! I bet the SuperD could be fun up there. We are both kinda addicted to the dual now so we propably can't do it (Norba schedules stuff way to close or they overlap; at Brianhead I did my DH run, major stress, and then had to run to the truck, change a few things, grab my other bike and run to the finals for the dual). I was wasted by the time we were done.

    Almost heaven, West Virginia
    Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River
Life is old there, older than the trees
Younger than the mountains, blowing like a breeze

    Country roads, take me home
    To the place, I belong
    West Virginia, Mountain Mama
    Take me home, country roads

All my mem’ries, gather ’round her
Miner’s lady, stranger to blue water
Dark and dusty, painted on the sky
Misty taste of moonshine, teardrops in my eye

I hear her voice, in the mornin’ hours she calls me
The radio reminds me of my home far away
And drivin’ down the road I get the feeling’
That I should have been home yesterday, yesterdaaaaayyyyyyyy
