Seattle Tangerine Dream Show (TGR folks please read)

... is at the Showbox. Last year's show, also at the Showbox, left some things to be desired.

    Last year's thread: http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/s...hlight=Showbox

Basically, people seemed to have a minor beefs with the long ticket line, and having to stand, but we had major beefs with screen visibility. If I recall, the screen was small, at the back of the stage, and partially obscured by speaker stacks.

Is there any chance to get a bigger screen in front of the stage this year?

You guys know I'm your bitch and I'm going anyways, but a little reach-around might be nice...

The Showbox was kind of a shitty movie viewing venue. What about the Mountaineers building? They had a pretty big screen and seats at that one, plus easier-to-find parking. Or they could just move from the Showbox to the Vu.

You must have been piss drunk, since it was a half hour long lingerie show, and it wasn't too bad either. Plus, they all came and had drinks with us. Okay, so we all stood around and harassed them, but that's not the point. There were chicks in thongs running around.

The showbox sucked -- you can't see the screen from the right side beer garden.

    yep...

i can very clearly remember one young las in a very see through white uppers and lowers. drinks, ski porn and almost naked girls on stage it was almost a perfect evening.

the lingerie show did start kinda late. i think i was still hanging out while girlski was scaring the shit out of will burks or something.

i also went to work the next day still drunk. it was quite the evening.

I'll admit the venue kind of ruined the movie for me. Call me crazy, but I like to sit down and have an unobstructed view when I watch a movie

I made the mistake of taking New Hottie Date who didn't seem to be plugging in very well with my ski loony friends. Blinded by NHD's good looks and alpine touring credentials, it took me a while to figure out the problem: he was...I shudder...earnest. Sigh. So I was temporarily distracted with juggling and doing handstands-n-shite trying to get NHD to loosen up and I actually thought BC, Squirrel et al were just messin' with me when they said there had been a lingerie show. Of course, I wouldn't have known anyway because I'm far too short to see anything, including the movie, in that particular venue. Yeah, please do something about the screen and then consider a change of location in the future.

wtf tgr????? there's a nice place called neumo's on capitol hill that kicks much ass over the showbox and could hold a good show. or how about any of the old theatres around town. the showbox is for music, and usually crummy music (acoustically at least).

    Film Tour Director Here

We hear you loud and clear, we got some things in the works to fix the situation. We tried to get Nuemo's in like April, but they were already booked up.

    Send me an email at
    Dave@tetongravity.com

with a list of the ideal live music venues that you guys think the movie would like ass at. We definitely want to stick with the live music venue because, hell this isn't just a movie we want the after party to kick ass too. Some theaters don't even allow drinking, well just lets us know where we aren't going. Working on better and better bands each year too.

let me know. Thanks for the feed back, good or bad we'd rather hear it.

Hmm... I'm not sure where you guys have tried to book. I'm totally down with a big after party, but 11/2 is a Wendsday, and I'm not sure what the after party turn out is going to be like. I remember last year party got pretty thin after the movie was over.

Anyways, I like The Moore the best. It fits all criteria. It's got a huge screen, pounding sound and a pretty great bar too. It's also where MSP shows. I'm not sure if that's a positive or a negative.

The Taper Foundation Audiorium at Benaroya Hall would also rule the school, but might be a bit spendy. (2,500 seats might be too big?) It's got all the AV and the bars too. It's also pretty upscale. (Though not too upscale... Pearl Jam played there...) There's also the Nordstrol Recital Hall at Benaroya, which is just as cool, but maybe too small (540 seats.)

Cinerama would blow people's socks off. Best screen and sound in the city. It might be hard to book. It's also probably not condusive to a big after-party.

5th Ave Theater is where Warren Miller plays. Again, it's a great venue, the sound and screen are great, and it's probably good for bands too (as opposed to Cinerama, which has no stage.) But, no bar.

Other Seattle people? Got any other ideas?

I thought EMP was a quality venue. And you can easily spill into the bar for the post show- but no drinking during the film so that might be out. I really like the Moore, too- but you'd want to set up the post-party at another venue nearby. Showbox really is the one place big enough to go off (a la Harry O's style). Maybe they could set chairs this year on the dance floor? I'm sure they could fix it somehow. Unless you did a big outdoor screening at the Pyramid. It's not like any of us need warm surroundings

Chop Suey(?) in Cap Hill? Is that big enough?

Trying to think of some of the clubs down in Pioneer Square that could pull it off. Maybe Last Supper club? Or Phenix? whatever used to be called Backstage at Bohemian would be pimp. It's big, tall ceiling so could set up a huge screen. It just got bought out, can't remember the new name, though.

My vote also goes in for the Moore or the EMP, except the fuckers at the Moore busted me and wouldn't let me drink my beer up on the balcony (you just HAD to show off your super-slick bottle-opener-belt-buckle, didn't you, BC-flow?!?!?!?). You CAN drink, you just gotta sneak the shit in and drink it incognito-style.

Both the EMP and the Moore have decent screen/stage space, and adjacent bars. The Moore's probably the biggest and best of the two, in terms of comfortable seating, a screen you won't get a crick in your neck seeing from an awkward angle, size of theatre, etc. Moore used to be an opera house/theatre kind of gig. Fucking amazing sound there too.

Soo, what's important? Drinking during the show? Drinking on the floor with a band up on the stage, after the show? Or can people just pre-funk it, watch show w/smuggled PBRs in jackets or something, and then hit theatre or downtown bars like we did last year?

Do it that way, and Girlski may even have you autograph her boobs!

Chicks in thongs who know they are way too hot to talk to you is what's important at a ski movie show.

AD: If you want to sit down old timer, go watch a WM movie. TGR-type movies are meant to be watched standing up and cheering.

Monique: Bring Luker to the show this time. He'll probably go anyways, heh.

edit: Sidenote, but the last Atmosphere/Eyedea show I saw at the Showbox sucked also, mainly because Slug's DJ blew a speaker doing some stupid RATM intro. Anyhow, it was so bad, I'm going back, because he's playing there again 11/7...

Genius, BB, as long as JL is there I prolly won't care whether or not I can see the screen!

I'm trying to think of venues and all I can come up with is the Egyptian or the Neptune. Both are older theaters with...er...character that lends itself to this kind of event, and they do book special features sometimes, e.g. during Seattle International Film Festival. They have stages and PA systems, also any number of watering holes within staggering distance. I wanna say seating's around 700 at the Egyptian, not sure at the 'Tune.

    Thumbs up

    ahem

    evo-gear?

The Moore rules for shows and movies. I've seen John Spencer Blues Explosion there, Mazzy Star, Widespred Panic, and TOOL fuckin TOOL there too! The Nitelite doesn't need a bunch of ski freaks to make it an interesting after party, but they do pour the stiffest drink/have the best jukebox/draw the freakiest crowd in Belltown! muh vote!

edit:BTW is it me or is it the typical PNW mentality to be bitchy whiny?

I'll admit it, it's true, especially for me. My female organs are cranky and it's too freaking hot out.
