My house has well water and with that a high mineral content, AKA hard water.

Toilets are a bitch to keep clean and I had to resort to caustic solutions like Santeen (acid) which is bad for septic fields.

I saw a blurb on a website about the wonders of WD-40, one of its many wonders is to spray the toilet bowl liberally.

Holy shit! It really does work? Waste slides away and mineral buildup is gone.

And WTF is in those Mr Clean Erasers? Those fuckers work great.

Your municipality is probably not crazy about potentially treating WD-40 tainted waste water but who knows maybe the Beer Bozeman is using in their wastewater plant can handle that too.

Bases are caustics, acids are corrosives. A bit of a distinction without a difference, but technically that's how they're classified.

What does WD40 do to the septic system though?

Even a "liberal" application to a toilet bowl is probably only a few milliliters, so just one flush from a low-flow 1.6 gpf toilet is more than a 1000x dilution factor. A day's worth of flushes, sink use, showers, etc. probably results in a >100,000x dilution factor, i.e. de minimis. Scrubbing with a pumice stone will also take that stuff off without harming the porcelin and leave the bowl sparkling like new. More work than spraying with WD40, though.

Your still putting hydrocarbons directly into the water supply, that's a no go in my book...

Do you ever spray wd40 to protect tools or equipment in the outdoors from rust?
Spill a little gasoline when you fill-up the lawnmower?

Sponges work great if used carefully. Too much use or pressure and you'll knock the sheen off your paint leaving an area that shows from certain angles.
