GF has received $15k in UI since April. About $1100 a week. I'd expect extensions at least through November election to keep economy from rolling over before. Recall that we were already in a zero growth economy in the 1st quarter.

That would be nice. Though I'm more mad at the broader problem than inconvenienced myself. Its just shameful that data is lagging that badly at this point. Maybe other places are better (and obviously some are given other experiences in this thread). This was a nasal swab, fwiw.

So my neighbor's co-worker just tested "positive." Wait for it... She was sick with something. Maybe flu, maybe cold, maybe teh rona. heard about one of those big public free testing events. After signing in, waiting in a line for around 2 hours and not even halfway through, she gave up, turned around and went home. Never got the test done. About two weeks later she got a letter in the mail confirming her COVID-19 results: "Positive."

Still think we should be totally trusting the numbers? Perhaps a glitch, but still seems questionable either way.

Oh yeah, I get ya. I feel like a few months ago they had a test that was 99% accurate and gave results in 45 mins. Maybe I misunderstood of misremember that though.

That would be the case in South Korea. Not the USA.

Yeah, I'm sure it's all a big conspiracy. Come on, dude.

Friend of mine posted on Facebook yesterday that she was sick and went to get tested for Covid. She was still waiting for the results as of nine days after being tested. This is in San Diego.

That test requires instrumention, and sample processing, shipping, and the instrument throughput are limiting factors.

Remember that at 60-70,000 positive/day, that still only represents at best 10-15% positive rate nation wide, so maybe 600,000-700,000 tests/day. Back in April a good bit of the science was saying 3million/day was needed to squash the wave. Testing capacity and ppe supply remain unmet 6 months later.
Move upside and let the man go through...

This narrative is spreading on social channels. I suspect, if it really happened, is due to contact tracing procedure.

The "my neighbor's co-worker..." start puts it under suspicion from the get go.

Ah the ol'neighbor's co-worker. So many strange yet narratively convenient things seem to happen to them.

Article on the varied spread of that story on social media: https://www.sun-sentinel.com/coronav...5ky-story.html

I completely understand your skepticism, but if it happened to you, would you then dismiss it as a narrative or would you also find it odd?

Perhaps you're right, but those sorts of stories do make me question the numbers. While I'm sure the numbers overall are close to the truth, I have not been seeing much on a margin of error included in most places, like CNN's 24/7 case ticker they've been trying to scare everyone with.

    It's not a poll.

The margin for error is "we have documented so many millions of cases via testing, based on modeling we think that means 3-4 times as many infections."

Pics or it didn't happen. Why leave such an important story unproven when this is the co-worker of your actual neighbor? She'd be happy to share those results with you. Go forth and bring back pics.

This is either a very active urban legend or a huge problem.

I’ve heard this story multiple times...but never from first hand.

Are those set to expire this month? What’s the latest on extensions?

I know there are all these scientists and health professionals who have decades of education and experience with this sort of thing, but the guy down the street who works at Wal Mart and has internet told me he's done his research and there's all this falsification going on and we shouldn't believe the numbers. Who's right??????

This is the problem we've been talking about in this thread forever. Why is it that a large segment of the population believes some bullshit that some friend "heard" over the opinions posited by experts? It makes no sense. I'm sure there's some psychological explanation for this.

Well you have to admit the expert opinions haven’t been exactly steadfast. Understandably so.

Example. I’m still confused whether asymptomatic people are contagious or not. Seems like it’s changed multiple times.
A 20something I work with tested positive. Other than one day of aches and pains she was symptom free. Dr. Told her she could go to work...and she’s in healthcare...wtf.

What does this mean vis a vis your contention that testing maybe isn’t a good thing? I missed where you defended that odd little assertion.
As has been discussed, deaths are not showing as a lagging indicator. Go look it up yourself.

vis a vis from where do you get that from?

Yep, Ferris Bueller was the first thing I thought of with Montucky's story.

Trump's Russian bots must be telling the MAGA crowd to spread that bit of disinformation.

Did she ever have a fever? It seems that the current recommendation is that you wait three days after the fever has gone to re-enter the world.
