Fear and Loathing, a Rat Flu Odyssey

Core shot, possibly a secondary infection or possibly another virus and not a cold.

Wastewater surveillance is so cool. Many in my area have septic tanks, that type of screening would not be as effective as in my urban and suburban areas. It looks like something (supposedly not omicron ba1) is starting up in Silicon Valley (palo alto):

Scrolling through this site, there are a few places with an upswing in their graphs over the past few days

Wife’s coworker, triple vaxed, fit, mid-40’s. During the big post-Xmas winter storm, her power was knocked out (over 2 weeks), a tree fell onto her house, and many trees fell and blocked her driveway. The tree onto the house was not typical, but the power outage and driveway blocking was very typical from that storm. Her and her husband sawed their way out of their home, which took several days. Their family landed at a friend’s house to stay as they continued to deal with their damaged house and property. Their entire family caught Covid along with the family they were staying with. Now, she has fairly bad long Covid. Only able to work 1/4-1/2 time. Pulmonary, cardiac, and random muscle issues. Sometimes can’t move without loosing breathe. Sometimes can’t move a limb without pain in that limb. Sometimes she experiences irregular heart rhythms. These are all new issues for her. Unclear what sort of medical help she’s getting.

First case of BA.2 detected in our neck of the woods--Nevada County CA. Hopefully on the other side of the summit, because wildfires and pandemics never cross the Sierra Crest (yeah, right).

I saw that. It's gut wrenching. Poor guy, I can't imagine....thanks faux News misinformation campaign. Freedom!
I'm going to be wearing a mask for a while yet even if our province is abolishing the mask mandate as of yesterday.

At the grocery store today looks like COVID is over in VT with 10% wearing masks, including me. However, watching UVM clobber UMBC on TV they were 99% masked in the bleachers. In Canada earlier in the week it was 100% indoors still. By order of the NB government.

I’ve had the Sinus, Headache, Dis-equilibrium, Neck stiffness, Brain Fog intermittently for about 6 weeks now. Never tested positive for Covid/Omicron but wife did about 7 weeks ago. She was sick/symptomatic for a solid week and is still is having daily constant Headaches, Cough, Low energy. We were both double vaxxed and then boostered about 10 weeks ago. Our Doc says Long Covid won’t be considered until 12-16 weeks… and just hang in there and good luck.

A buddy across the state has the same symptoms as me almost to a T. He’s never tested positive for Covid/Omicron and started treating it as a neck alignment issue and going to the Chiropractor without much success.

Vibes to those that are dealing with similar or worse.

I believe UVM still has the campus indoor mask mandate..…so the fans have to wear them. Daughter 1 was at game…daughter 2 was still at home for break. Go Cats!

Well…. Yes, but, as you know, I was kidding. The west county is entering another planet again.

In the new home of omicron ba2, I just left my grocery store, a coop that was super strict and helpful with mask requirements. Maybe 20% staff and customers wearing masks. Prior to that, I went to an indoor day-long workshop, where masks were “encouraged.” 3 out of 25 were wearing masks. People were there from all over the state, most were over educated types.

My office of 300+ employees is opening up with masks optional for those with 2 vaxes. Unvaxed can doff their masks in the eating areas. The entire office is open floor plan with an updated merv13 hvac system. There is a requirement to not come to work if you have symptoms and there’s a company-based contract tracing system if you test positive. I asked my supervisor (a VP in the company) about the process or procedure if we observe coworkers with symptoms, especially with spring allergy season starting to peak. Their advise was don a mask in the office and if we observe a nearby coworker with symptoms, to move our location. I asked if we should report symptomatic staff, they could not give me a clear answer.

Indeed. They crushed UMBC this time. Wasn't even a fair match. My son wanted to go. I didn't feel like driving. The roads sucked in my town. And I am still not *there* yet regarding indoor crowds. I do need a bigger TV though.

Shopping today, 2 of 6 places still had a sign up and employees masked. Of the no sign places about 50% were still masked. I decided to go commandoface in the bigger spaces where folks were spread out and only diapered up if I was in close proximity with other humans sharing air space..
Go that way really REALLY fast. If something gets in your way, TURN!

I need my boss to schedule the “we are coming back to the office, let’s talk about it meeting” so the “we are putting return to office on hold” email can come out a few days later like the last two or three false starts.

With at-home rapid tests, who’s being recorded as positive tests these days? Hospital admittances, people that need a negative test to do something, people that are confused?
