Argentina (Ski Press) Ski areas across Argentina are reporting their best season for at least five years thanks to both heavy snowfall and booming economies in the continent.

The biggest boom in business is coming from Brazil which has seen its currency gain in strength by nearly a sixth against the US Dollar in the past year - the biggest growth of the world’s top 60 currencies. Argentina is also doing well itself, with its economy growing at eight percent annually at present from its low point three years ago, but Brazilian currency is outstripping it making ski trips to Argentina more affordable.

Airlines are reported to be adding additional flights to try to meet demand and tour operators are reporting their ski resort accommodation allocations sold out. Many Brazilians are travelling just to see, feel, touch and taste snow for the first time.

Cerro Catedral, the largest ski resort on the continent with 53 runs and 28 lifts has already sold 280,000 ski tickets this winter season, which is only seven weeks old, 30 percent more than two years ago. About 30,000 Brazilians have visited Catedral so far this season.

Note to the Bariloche crew: learn how to say "You have very pretty...uhhh...eyes" in Brazilian. This of course is discounting the fact that they'll already have their hands full with all those Argentine high school girls...

This has gotta stay up top! Those are some awful pretty shots - Lanchile is running specials to Santiago for <$700 (tack on another $150 to Mendoza and back) if anybody wants to make last minute plans...

Nice shots edg, but most folks is too lazy to check the link. Some highlights:
Le FRED se prend pou Jeremy nobis

    Le Fred en soul turn

Le Gobbi en quete de la pente vierge (aka Bariloche looks mah-velous!)

And this one reminds me of the Jay woods on a good day:

Grrrrr. Double Grrrrr. I'm stuck at a desk. I can almost taste the lomo, feel the powder, and see the Andes. I hate work.

Lucky Bastards going down need to rip it up.

^ Hey! When did Little Red Riding Pants get down there?!?!

    On a personal note:

Work rocks, I just had the best pilates class of my life, I'm feeling strong as hell, the seasons are changing in Tahoe, it's raining, snow is around the bend, we're off to LL in 9 1/2....uhhhh...2 1/2 weeks, and I can't stop dreaming every minute of every day of skiing.

Yes, but they already speak amor en Castellano. Adding the Portugese would just be icing on the cake.

Really like to hear from anyone who has dug a pit - What's going on underneath all this new snow after the warm/wet weather last week?
