    5 months post patellar realignment

It's been a long time since the last post so I thought I would say a few things about this knee. = BOMBER!!!!!!
Thanks to the doc and all the support.

I have been working construction that requires me to scale up and down stairs in a four story building all summer, while carrying tools and material. The routine of huffing stairs with a 50 lb. air compressor on my shoulder has really helped to work my quad and strengthen my lower leg.
Last week I started to Mountain Bike on Single trac for the first time since surgery and I must say I can fly. Only slight pain from dismounting my clipless pedals have I felt.
One question to bring to the board is that I have a ton of popping recently and I believe it is scar tissue doing it's thang. The alignment of my leg while walking seems a little off center (not enough to keep me out) and puzzles me. Anyone have the same surgery and have you had similar symptoms?

Any info would be most greatly appreciated.

Did you have chronic subluxation and dislocation of your patella. If so what type of surgery did you have. In the near future I am going to have my patella "beefed up" and I would like to have a better feel for the recovery time based on someone else's experience. Basically the surgery will include lateral release and medial reefing. You saying your knee is now bomber makes me feel better about the whole thing.
You should have seen Little Jerry, Jerry! Flappin' his wings and struttin' his stuff! He was peckin' and weavin' and bobbin' and talkin' trash! He didn't even have to touch him! The other rooster ran out of the ring.

WELL, jerry I must say it is bomber and I know it will carry me well through the next stages of life. Knees are part of this game and this particular injury only re-enforced the importance of bringing and walking away with your A-game to all encounters on boards be it snow or water.

The realignment consisted of a medial anchor (plastic) being inserted into my femoral condial in order to support the tendon dislocated from the patella or cap. The lateral release was given to me (not mentioned pre-op) to help bring the patella to a more centered position over my femor and more inline with the true function of my leg.

The lateral release has been frowned upon by all the Physical Therapists I have worked with as a large percentage of recipients encounter reinjury from the weakening of what was given to us naturally. Release means cutting away precious tissue in order to pull the patella to center. My knee may just stay nice an fat because of it and lately I have a click or pop that I would like to investigate and I wonder if it is from the procedure.
I don't wish to rip on it or say it won't work for you because apparently it is working for me but has me concerned for the future. A female PA of mine had it done more than ten years ago and the knee gives her problemas that she believes is due to the lateral release. I really don't know what to think but would like to give you a heads up about this and ask you to inquire further into what it is. I had no choice as the DOC's opened me up without prior knowledge of what would transpire in full, kind of an "exploratory procedure." Thank God that they didn't give me the ACL treatment they thought they might have needed to do.

Health and Strength my friend - modern medicine is cool.
Also don't slack on your PT or you will regret it I hear. I worked it hard and still do in order to prepare for winter rigors.
