iowagrizz needs to check into this thread. He used to race in the Chequamagen 40 every year.

It has been over 15 years, or maybe more since I last raced the Chequamegon 40. What a great combination of fast racing (like a road race), but with handling skills required to drift the bike at speeds or navigate passing on the single smooth (fast) line. 2k racers that self seeded at the start, my goal was always top 100, I never made that but got close many times (110-120). It goes from Hayward to Cable and ends at the old Telemark Lodge. I'm not sure if it still stands. It was quite run down, and I believe that I heard it was going to be cheaper to tear it down vs. repair.
The Birkie ski race also covers a very similar route.
I found a few old photos, this plaque was on the massive fireplace (I think).![]()
This is a stock shot of the pack being lead out and down main street of Hayward.![]()
^^ Hell yeah, iowagriz brings the Midwest Stoke !
Looks like a fun event,it’s in early Sept, I’m close by so I think I will show up. I will bring my cowbell.

Harry, pull the course map from here... https://www.cheqmtb.com/
Firetower climb is a good spot to watch, but I'm not sure how hard it is to get there. OO Road crossing is also a good spot, but the racers are going fast at that point, and you'll see a bunch of blurs.
Always a good party at the finish line as it is the end of the season for most of the amateurs.

The old Telemark Lodge is gone. There are only the elevator shafts that still stand. It's kind of a weird Stonehendge kind of thing. The CAMBA trails and the newer Trek trails near the Birkie start/finish sure are a blast to ride.</p>
