Had another fun day at Christie Mountain. They are closed Mon-Thurs, and it snowed during the week, so I knew Friday would be nice and soft. Skied lift served for 3 hours followed by 2 hours of Nordic.

    Cheesehead limo.

Wasn’t Christie Mountain an old school porn star?

Edit: nevermind, googlesez that was Christie Canyon...

What a missed opportunity....please tell me there’s at least a run there called Christie Canyon.

^^ haha. That would be an awesome name for a run at that place.

So far, I am STOKED on the Midwest. Yeah, it’s not as gnar as Big Sky, but I am making the best of it and so far I am having a good time here.

Next time. Hopefully it won't be years between trips moving forward...

Have a good time charging the gnar of the great Midwaste!! Looks like we're in a weather pattern for a week or so, but I hope it's snow, and not rain... Maybe I'll zip over to Christie Canyon (hehe...) and meet you over there one of these weekends.

Overheard in the liftline today as the Iowegian rental trio came through the third time.

Liftie: I know you're having fun, but I don't want to see your smiles. Pull up your mask.

Iowegian: tugs his jacket collar up again and mutters something about "good enough"

Liftie: Go to the chalet and ask them for a mask if you don't have one. If you come to my lift again without one, you aren't getting on. You're making my workplace and job dangerous. Go ahead and tell my boss if you want, but you aren't getting on my lift.

Me: thumbs up to the liftie

Liftie: What fuckin dumbass... I'm sick of this bullshit, and we're never getting out of this mess if idiots like him don't care about anyone other than themselves.

    Me: FKNA.

I love it axe! Iowans are a bunch of backass hicks. I live here on purpose so count me among them if you must but it is embarrassing.

Today at the nut was...awesome. Another Beach Bum sighting with his daughter. Joey W stopped by for a chat... My Billy Goats came out to stomp the heavy choppy PNW style cream pow. Chestnut race team was out in force schralping and grilling. I saw Will, who I met at Beartooth Basin last summer, coaching his USSA superstars with Mad Alpine over on Crazy Horse. Bunch of rippers. Masks were pulled up. Illegal amounts of midwest toe deep pow was had.

    2019/2020 Midwest Stoke Thread

2 inches last night, so I headed to Christie Mountain for first chair.

    1) eat gummy’s
    2) stream 70’s disco into earbuds
    3) shred

Great time, 3 hours of lift served followed by 2 hours Nordic. Legs pumped. Lungs pumped.

I wanted to get out so bad today, but when I got home yesterday, I decided to scrape ice off the driveway for about an hour. When I woke up this morning, I couldn't reach down to get my socks on...phuc...stupid low back. Need some of your gummies, Harry...and Yacht Rock on Sirius XM is my jam these days too!

So once I was able to move again (around 2:00), I got the roof box off and washed, floor mats scrubbed, along with a good bath for the car. Good n clean now....for a day or so.

great to see ongoing stoke in this thread! Wife and I were up at Chestnut on 12/29 at the crack o' noon. Softish turns to start then it started dumping around 2. Had a good 4 inches on the van when we called it quits at 6. Road to the interstate made for interesting driving, good to know the new to me AWD sienna handled it like a champ.

Skiff, thanks for the Tyrol stoke. I miss that little place. I would hit it a lot after work when I was living in Mt. Vernon.

Fack... I wish I could. I'd love to get out, but work is nuts, and...it's gonna be cold AF Friday.

I think the last time I saw you was that dinner party at my place in Big Sky. Austin went on to have another kid after that, judging by the photos on this years Christmas card from him, that party must have been 5(?) years ago.

It would be cool to catch up with you, but gotta be careful because I’m taking care of my Mom.

Mostly sure you're referring to me.

There's all sorts of action going on... groups of young Amish women skiing, snow bikes, park scene, xc skiing, tubing, can't forget the cool and weird locals... what's not to miss?

It is full on Blizzard mode down here in Moose. White out on the way home from work. More snow on top of one of the most legit snowpack we have had in years. Snowglobe! I love it. Too bad about the work thing.

I'll be at Cascade Saturday for my girls U12 WIJARA race. Gatekeeper for the afternoon race. Brrrrrr....send warm vibes.

    ^^^ Nice ^^^

We're getting some here as well, makes it look like winter at least. Never thought about "snowpack" around here before. With the new area open at Tyrol, it helps to make more terrain available.

The best part is this was supposed to start as rain but the rain never made it this far north.

Tyrol has some cool off piste for sure with the northern exposure to hold the snow and the expansion plans look promising. The owner dude seems super ambitious! I have witnessed him being an absolute dick though to customers. But I think the ambitious outweighs any faults he might have. Obviously wish the nut offered something similar.

Seems like it would be difficult to make money in that business, especially in the midwest. I was surprised the new guy built a tubing area and cleared a lot of brush to make more "off piste" skiing available. The park is okay, fewer features than before.

Some other activities he has going on there are summertime weekend barbecue dinners, a challenging disc golf course and a halloween haunted walk through the woods. Plus weddings and all that's associated with a wedding. It does sound ambitious, like he's planning to stay around for awhile.

Don't know the new guy but now curious to hear the story of said dickhead behavior.

Dumping in Northern Wisconsin, 5-6 inches here. Tomorrow will be nice at Christie. Bitter cold though, should keep the crowds away and keep the masks up on those who do show up.

First weekend of the season that I can't ski, hopefully make up for it with numerous days each weekend after this. Going to be cold, but I'll take it winter is finally here. Snow conditions should be excellent with little clippers every few days over the next week.

UP could get blasted especially Mt Bohemia, I'm putting that back on the radar now after buying the $99 pass months ago. Anyone going up there in next week or two?
