Labor Day :: Should We Go to Denver?

I was talking to a buddy of mine who lives in Denver, and he was all guilt tripping me on the fact that I never come see him. So we're thinking about heading out there Labor Day.

    Who will be around?

I'd have to be in a bar by 3:30 PM on Saturday to watch Florida beat the snot out of Wyoming, but otherwise I'd like to bike a bunch, preferably on eXtreme(TM) stuff (extreme by my standards, not Hev's and Fondigley's's's).

How's lift-serviced stuff out there? Can you get to Summit and make a day of it, if the day ends at 2pm? Could head out there on Sunday, too, I suppose. Though any biking would need to have hiking of some sort nearby to entertain Mrs. Frizzo and our pup.

I suppose I could pedal uphill, too, but I'm slow -- even slower than when I go downhill.

Hot Hot Jumpage? We'll be staying downtown, so Gunbarrell may be too far away (not that I know how far it is). Are there jump spots near Denvah propah?

Fondigley, I think Bag is too yellow to go, but maybe if we call him Gat he'll cave.

    Hey, Bag, you're Gat!

Unfortunately I don't think there is any cool non-xc riding around Denver besides one trail up near Boulder and some dirt jumps. I'll find out if there are any lesser known trails when I get back there. I will probably be riding Keystone that weekend if you want to ride up there.

I'd be up for some riding. The lift served at keystone and vail is a lot of fun. Really only worth the ticket price if you go 10:00-4 or 5 though. As far as jump spots lake arbor might be the closest to denver. It's in arvada and is a great place. There are also a lot of fun trails near denver, but most are a bitch on the way up.

That's just what I was going to say...Keystone and/or Lake Arbor for DJ's. I used to ride from my apartment over to Lake Arbor after work...good times. I used to love hanging with (and learning how to jump from) the 8 year olds I stayed away from the grown-up jumps back then, heh.

Should be around and game for lift riding and or any kind of riding really... Both keystone and vail are riding pretty well and are worth the money, but a 2pm cutoff might be a little bit of a stretch. There's a couple shuttle options up my way too that are fun. Arbor is always fun also.

Yeah, I should be around. I am trying to party it up a little. Bag should come celebrate a homie's birfday with him. So I guess I need to call Bag, GAT.

There are some fun jumps east of Denver too, in Aurora, a place called The V which is Fun. Also any sort of DH could be accomadated. Love to hit up some lift access that weekend. My GF is down for hikes, especially with puppies. We could possibly pull off some killer riding.

It's only about 1/2 an hour to Gunbarrel from DT. You should come and we should party on Friday night as I leave for LL on Saturday. [cruise director] If you rally a DD, you should ride all day and then watch the game in the mountains somewhere. 2pm I-70 traffic is 'toopid. Hev, Fonding etc., WP has great shuttleable ridding. Not super gnar but good none the less.

    Kiss ass.

Don't know. In all my years of being friends w/ fondig, I've never celebrated his birthday, not sure why I'd start now.

Brian Head or Colorado? Tough choice. I do like hanging w/ the AGs. Have you seen Mr. AG? He's a frickin' Adonis!

Edit: Hey AGs, will you be going to Brian Head again before/after the Utah series races?
Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.

Don't think you are getting a better room in the condo with flattery.

I don't think we will be down again (four days this week, I'm there now for the Norba, plus four days on Labor day). After Labor day, we have Mammoth (I hope; AG is already quilified for the National Championships, I'd better ride well this weekend) and then its Moab season.

I'll be over riding Denver & Keystone from 8-25 to 9-3. If anybody wants their pics taken at Keystone, let me know, They have very cool features.

I'll also have some extra couches in the condo, for those who want to camp.
I want a 6" travel 20lb MTB. I found the 20lb MTB, but only good for riders under 87 pounds.

I'm sure I'll be riding that weekend. Are you going to hit up vail at all, or keystone the entire time?

Cool, sounds like there will be lots of riding to do. Maybe hit up the DJs on Saturday before drinking, then lift-serviced Sunday. It may be hard to get away both days, but I'll try .

How's the Vail stuff? Better than Keystone?

I'll be at Keystone on the weekends. GT, I'll get in touch with you or MD as we get closer.

Frizz, I'd say Keystone and Vail are pretty comparable. Vail is about 15 bucks more.

I enjoyed Vail more myself, but it is more expensive. Vail has a trail called old nine that is much steeper than anything at keystone which is nice, but overall the two are similar. Lift ticket prices are $21 at keystone if you go with someone who had a 5 mountain pass and $29 at vail.

Art, has Keystone added anything new this year?

I've never been before this year, but from what I've been told one of the rock gardens is new this year. Also a little bridge area before all the switch backs. They added some more stunts to the little park and some dirt jumps. I think that's about it.

Has Vail got a lot of man-maid features also?

I'm sure I could make it over there.

Hola, first post after the move to Denver....I miss DV immensely but Denver sure is normal compared to the SLC...a welcome change.
Concerning Keystone over Labor Day weekend...there is a Mtn States Cup race up there that weekend, so freeride steez DHing will be hard to come by, and there will be a decent sized lift line.
I've never raced there before, so I don't know what the trail situation is during race weekends, but if yer not racing it would probably be a good place to avoid.

Thanks for the info, Flow. Maybe I'll just bring ol' Bluey and see what kind of damage I can do to myself.
