For garburuk i bet if you asked dangerholm he'd give you the full run down berween shimano and garburuk cassettes. I guess the garburuk's are light if he"s running them

My wife showed up at home with this tonight. $400 bucks. XT drivetrain, Fox Float RP shock and F100 fork,Avid Juicy 5 brakes, new WTB tires and tune-up. Obviously nothing fancy but she’s just looking to get out on some Fall foliage singletrack and off her cross bike. Yay or nay, Experts?

    Errr...

If she's already purchased it, I'd say just go for it. And hope that fork doesn't shit the bed.

Yay or nay... Didn't she buy it already?

We bought that Jamis for one of the kids, years ago, but it had lower level parts on it vs that one. Bike was fine, held up for several years of hard use.

It's fine - it'll work. $400 is probably reasonable for that.

No, my wife brought it home to try it out from one of her Mom friends who hasn't been riding since having kids. My wife thought it would be a good start for her to get back into singletrack riding. Her last MTB was a hard tail 15years ago before kids. We also have a 13 year old daughter that the bike could get passed down to if my wife gets into it again and then wants something better. Thanks for the inputs.

For $400, for someone who hasn't ridden in 15 years, and with a kid who can use it, I'd go for it. Just don't pull a mall walker and throw a bunch of money at it.

And keep praying that fork doesn't shit the bed.

How is Fox's support of really old forks like that? Figure maybe the experts know...

That appears to be a 44 mm head tube. So, if it came to that you could run a tapered fork.

    It's a straight 1 1/8".

Good to know, since I'm about to put a 2005-ish Fox Van-R on one of the kid's bikes.

Straight 1.125" HTs come in two flavors, 34 mm and 44 mm. The 44 mm version can take a tapered steerer if you switch to an external lower headset cup.

It looks/sounds pretty clean and un-beat up, looks like a smaller size, so does it fit ever body ?

I got 500$ for a 15 yr old XT level bike full suspension last year but the market might be more brisk for that bike this year so 400 sounds OK but you don't wana be throwing money at a 15yr old bike and lady owned and never ridden sounds like the best situation

I know a dealer well, Jamis was always a B brand up here

That seat setup looks the suck, I would at least level it or even go nose high

You can also use an angle reducing headset on a 44mm HT.

Those forks are still sought after by the DJ crowd, if you can’t afford a custom lowered 36 or something newer. Good quality for the era and plentiful parts available. They’re hard to find and get snapped up quick for decent money.

I have an OLD (2001-ish) Mavic Crossmax front wheel on the kid's bike. Fork is fucked. So I've got a line on a 20mm fork, and am thinking these adapters just might work to convert this hub:

Can anyone confirm/deny that these things will work for me?
If that doesn’t work I have a couple 20mm x 110mm wheels I’d send you for actual shipping cost if they’ll work for you. One is an Easton Haven, the other’s an Azonic Outlaw, wider and beefier.
