I’m not experienced enough with the current tech bindings so I need some recommendations. A friend just gave us some free Scarpa Skookum for my son. He’s like 5’ tall and 80#. Shredder. Looking for something basic to get him into a lighter weight backcountry setup now that he fits adult boots. He’s got a setup with a frame binding but he’s ready for the next step. I’m in the market for used if you’ve got something to sell.

Ion 10 has a low din setting of 4. Would that be low enough?

older fritchi frame bindings as well, cheap, easy to step in/out
can cut down/mod.

I went with dynafit superlights for my kids.
4 din is fine for them.
Weight on feet matters when your 75lbs.
They're not skiiing gnar in the backcountry so i don't see the point of a tecton style binding.
Using leashes not brakes we've had one instance of runaway ski due to careless handling so if you go that route make sure they know the deal.

I think B&D designs has aftermarket springs to lower the DIN to sub 4

ATK RT 2.0 lightweight is rated to 65 Kg. skier weight but I use them at 165# with light pack / gear. Always easy to step in, and quite light even with brakes. I've not worried about skiing them over recommended weight, they're the same as RT 2.0 standard with lighter springs, din 4 - 8. Worth a look.
