EV trucks (aside from price) most likely make awesome plow vehicles. Low center of gravity for traction and no transmission == perfect plow vehicle.
A unibody vehicle with a giant battery that's a massive liability if it gets even slightly damaged is most definitely not a perfect plow vehicle.

I wasn't able to find a gif of a beer can crushing and then exploding, so just picture that.

The 2025 model year Korean EVs are now eligible for the $7500 tax credit, as they've sorted their supply chain/production out to ensure compliance with the restrictions.

I’m 99% sure a Tesla y will. Pretty sure the xc40 recharge, ev6 and ioniq 5 won’t. Not sure on the ford Mach e or polestar 2.
Anything else that’s available used for under $30k I am missing?

You didn't specify AWD but I'm guessing that's a requirement. It was new in 2024 and they never made the base model in a 2024 model so I dunno if used under $30k is possible or not. However, the cheapest 2025 AWD MSRPs at $40,300 so that runs $32,800 after the federal tax credit plus any state incentives or what have you that you're eligible for. In Colorado, it's under $30k.

193's would fit in my mach e, but it wouldn't be ideal.

Not sure if you're serious, but I'll bite. The 2024 Prius Prime (which is the plug in hybrid) is not available in AWD, and there appears to be no plans to make a Prius Prime w/ AWD in the future. Toyota is kinda secretive about this stuff.
We have a 2024 Prius Limited AWD, and it's actually an amazing car. I just got rid of my Bmw 340 x-drive, and got a '24 Golf R MT, and I'm addicted to MT, but the Prius is a crazy good car for any price and it's relatively cheap. The list of features is loooong, and it gets over 50MPG.

Thanks! I actually meant Prius hybrid e-awd, used. Looking at replacing the older 2006 awd matrix or adding to the quiver. Prius e-awd model years to avoid, utility to carry skis inside (longest skis are 204 (rarely used) and 192, etc.? Seems like the wrong thread….

Though it’s interesting to know that there are no officially released plans for an e-awd Prius prime. Isn’t there gonna be a rav4 prime with e-awd?

My dad had a plug-in x5. It was pretty nice, but felt a little dull/sanitary when driving in a very sporty manner. Never used fuel when driven around town for errands. My mom quit the lease when he passed away last year.

    Electric car thread

Only the 5th gen. 2018 to 2022 had AWD. We had a 2021 and it was great. 1/3-2/3 folding rear seats for skis angled, or over the armrest. I have some 208’s.

Looking at a 2021 y long range, 1 owner trade in with 36k miles for 26.5 at a local dealer. Waiting to see how much fee bs they put on. This is 2-3k under the other local comps (Seattle) so seem like a good deal. Anyone disagree?
What should I look for in terms of issues before I pull the trigger.

My Model 3 range has dropped significantly from 310 miles to about 240. Check what it can charge to, which is 90% of the total miles.

Does the fact that it's become the car equivalent of a MAGA hat count as an issue?

You are not what you own. And MAGA people don't fucking buy EVs, that's for pussies.

I won't be buying another tesla though due to Elon's lies.

I’m more concerned about loosing it in the parking lot than being judged. It’s not silver or white so I should be ok though.

That's a massive hit, like almost 25% reduction that's not normal. What year, miles?

That might be a warranty issue.

While muted might be correct on this, you gotta admit, it WOULD be some hilarious 4-D chess if the entire play here was for the largest electric car maker to convince the MAGA crowd to buy EVs as a way to "pwn the libs." Kind of a reverse psychology play if you will.

Can't you imagine it as redneck Billy Bob trades in his coal-rolling brodozer for a Model 3 as he proudly proclaims "Yeah! This'll show those pussy libs!" Perhaps the more the Left gets worked up about Musk, the more cars he sells to alt-right hicks. Seems like a win for the environment, right? Haha.

New study shows: EV batteries last much longer than expected

While diesel cars run and run, electric car batteries quickly break down and turn the expensive new car into a complete financial loss - statements like these can be found on social media repeatedly. P3 now analysed data from more than 7,000 electric cars, providing insights into real battery ageing. And the field data paints a whole different picture.

    - In the first 30km loss of battery capacity is accelerated, meaning that the state of health drops relatively quickly from 100 to around 95-percent

    - After that however battery capacity loss slows down, from 95 to 90-percent, on average, to 100km

    - Actual battery capacity is maintained longer than assumed under real-life conditions, especially with the often-cited high mileages of 200,000 kilometers and more

    - Charging and usage behavior of drivers and the vehicles themselves is the main factor in longevity

    - Ageing can be reduced by limiting the amount of stress on the battery cell: limiting super fast charging, optimizing preconditioning, limiting heavy acceleration during extreme temperatures, etc.

I'm in a model S from the dark ages and would never buy a new Tesla because Elon can suck my balls BUT I've had an itchy trigger finger for replacing the wife's Forrester with a very similar deal. The depreciation is already in. The car is pretty reliable. The most common complaint I know of was on early models with water running off the roofline and into the trunk with the rear hatch open.

Take a good hard look at the battery. Try to test-drive it 20 miles or so with the battery somewhere around 70-90% and extrapolate total range from % range consumed / 20 miles. The "percent remaining" mode and "miles remaining" can be easily manipulated based on recent driving habits.

As an example my S will read 220 fully charged but won't make it more than 160 miles at highway speed.

The current RAV4 plug-in hybrid is e-AWD in all trims, the previous model year as well.

Re the Prius, I don't know of any bad years that AWD has been available for in the US. Third gen Prius is known for having some head gasket and electronics issues (not as bad as Subarus used to be with head gaskets, but some issues), but there was no AWD for those years.

Warranty triggers if greater than 30% reduction within the first 8 yrs/100,000. Mine just barely scraped by better than that and I'm fastidious about my charging parameters. Also, if you do qualify for warranty Tesla reserves the right to replace with another used battery that just barely meets their warranty terms (i.e will get you to 100k with 70.000000001% remaining. NOT a new battery)

I picked up a new PHEV Volvo XC90 around the new year. Decided to try charging it when I drove it into work the other day.

I figured this would be convenient since the EV spots are right at the entrance, but I otherwise have to drive up 3-4 floors to find an open spot.
Turns out the spot I picked the charger was “unavailable”. So I call customer service and try to get it working. After 30 minutes on the phone, they tell me only 2 of the 6 chargers at my location work. Whatever, I’ll have to figure out the working one next time, but at least I have a shorter walk to work now.

There’s a mall across the street that has some chargers. I think to myself I can go grab dinner and let it charge for a bit there. As I’m driving through I pass at least 5 chargers until I see an open one. After grabbing the spot and plugging in, the charger app says it’s not charging, yet my vehicle app is getting a trickle charge. Whatever.

I eat, look for some things for the wife and head back after an hour. The vehicle says it’s managed to charge up 6 miles worth of energy. At least it was free and covers half my commute home.

Not a great start to this EV world for me and I’m glad I’ve got a hybrid still.

Is it normal to have some many chargers broken? Why do they break so easily?
