    Roll Call - Skegg's, Tuesday, 8/2 6 pm

anyone want to ride tomorrow night? I can't ride on Wednesday - I have to go to a boob event (Making Our Milk Safe fundraiser).

lemme know if any of you are up for a Tuesday ride instead or in addition.

I am out of town for work till Friday.

I can ride Fri, or the weekend, and next week.

I did the team maggot route through Skeggs last weekend, it was pretty cool. I had never been on that part of crosscut. Quintessential singletrack.

Tonight's ride report brought to you by WSD's new spancer:

The crew consisted of me and WSD's late-ass self. I was thiiiis close to ditching her and riding with the Hot Asian Chick parked next to me...ooorrrghhh....

So WSD shows up and our exchange was like
    WSD: "Got any lube?"
    Me: Mmmmppphhh....BWAA-HAHAHAHAHAHA!

We hit up the usual Manzanita. Someone appears to have trimmed the bush. The track is much wider and there's leaves and twigs and shit everywhere.

Onto Crosscut and I nearly had a head on with the hot Asian chick as I fly around the first section. If she weren't so hot I would have reminded her of the FIRST RULE OF SKEGG'S CLUB

So on the brutal climb up to Gordon, all I hear is coughing and wheezing. Apparently WSD did some Coke before the ride and chugged the whole bottle. Picture a bottle of Coke in your bottle cage and doing Manzanita, but instead all that fizz is now in WSD's stomach and she is about to enter a world of pain. A world of pain.

*HUUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRRRRRRLLLLLLLLL* said WSD as she projectile vomited all over the side of the Gordon Mill trail.

So we're back at the top. WSD heads on back to the car to rest up, and I continue on to the 2nd loop at Blue Blossom.

I'm now ripping the shit out of the first section leading up to the start of BB. As I'm approaching shit-my-pants speed and coming up to the first bermed left hand turn I realized that my rear brakes aren't worth two shits. I somehow used the front brake enough to slow me down so I don't go flying off the berm and into the soft-looking tree trunks.

A brake inspection shows that I fucked around with it at the parking lot too much. I adjusted the thingamajig to use less cable and the doodad that the cable pulls on is too close to the cable housing whatsit and the whatchamacallit piece of shit now does not make my brake lock up. To add insult to this, the pads are dragging, which will piss me off even more on the eventual climb out.

I had two choices at this point- Be a fucking pussy and climb back out to the road and head back to the car, or continue on with my original plan.

Fuck it. Climbing is for fags and I'm not about to smoke a pole anytime soon.

I hit up Blue Blossom minus my rear brake and somehow got into the zone. It was fucking insane. learned to use the front brake and started doing shit like riding up walls or hitting bumps to slow me down. At full speed and faster than usual, and with brake problems, everything seemed slo-mo, like a car crash waiting to happen.

Made it to the bottom in one piece, climbed outta there, back to the car and then home, missing the usual Apres-ride beerfest at the Mtn House, which was closed.

Soooo..how do I fix my rear brake?

Unscrew the doohickey until it's almost contacting the thingamabob, then pull on the framis until the badabing clears the badaboom. A little loctite, some Astroglide, and you're good to go.

heh - I knew something was wrong when instead of the usual zone I'm in flying down Manzanita, I found myself all spacey and zoning out to the point of, "oh hey! I'm on a bike! Whoa! There's rocks underneath me!"

Poor Pu - all he hears is me bitching on the climb "I don't feel so good. I think I'm gonna puke.".

    Boy did that suck.

So instead of the usual post work beers and burgers, last night's reward was broth and triscuits.

Pu's post ride call to update me on the sketchy no-brakes ride cheered me up. Wish I'd been there to see that!

    dammit! i missed vomiting!

was the "hot asian chick" named ivy? if so, you should know she has been riding skeggs for 12 years and is the definitive source on which trails are fun. for example, steam donkey is more fun than blue blossom. so now you know.

Cool. Last night, Stoney Wall and I rode around Grizzly Peak in Berkeley. Not as much fun as Skeggs, but accessible from BART. If Skeggs wasn’t so far from the East Bay we would join you guys.

You and Stoneywall live 2 miles and 5 miles from me respectively. Not sure about your work schedule, but I can pick you guys up around 5-5:30 then we can be at Skeggs in 45min. The more the merrier.

Hey skihippie! Glad to see you round these parts.

yup - it was a whole different kind of hurt I was in last night. I think I prefer to endo over losing my lunch on the trail. It was not pretty.

You’d drive back to the City? Lets talk next week.

If it is vomiting you want to see, come to the East Bay on Wednesday mornings - a certain unnamed maggot will surely oblige . . .

I am in the area and will be riding Skeggs tomorrow (Thursday, 8/4) afternoon. SuPu, wsd, skihippie, or anyone else: if you can make it, I can delay my start time until you show -- let me know if you can make it. Otherwise I'll be rolling solo.

Geez man - I'm not sure how well your recumbent is going to handle Skeggs. Be careful!
