i went the opposite direction with wheel removal. i have to loosen my derailleur to remove the wheel. ghetto Hall lock for the win.
love my 10-45 XTR just hope it starts getting a little cheaper now that they released the mono-color 9-45 m9200.

my m9100-GS has been one of the best derailleurs i've ever used. it looks like crap now but shifts like a dream. it's on it's third hanger.

Speaking of drivetrains, I am torn on what to run on my current bike. Of the following, let me know what your prefence would be.

GX Transmission: I removed this unused from the bike when I got it and plan on selling it. It is heavy (der and cranks) and I do not like thinking about batteries. I if I keep it, I would buy a 0mm offset t-type compatible chainring for some DUB carbon cranks I have to get a 55mm chainline and save a little weight. The wolftooth chainring is about 85 USD, so I would be spending money on a drivetrain I'm not excited about. Doubt I could sell the GX t-type cranks for much.

Eagle 90: sell the transmission derailleur and rocker paddle controller and buy Eagle 90 der and shifter. This saves me some money and maybe 100 grams. I would run the crank setup mentioned above. I read that the shifter feels like crap.

Shimano XT: I am very familiar with this groupset and the needy clutch on the drailleur. I prefer the gear spacing on Shimano. It would be the lightest option. I have to buy a microspline driver which annoys me. For chainstay clearance, I would need to run the 8120 cranks 55mm chainline which gives me less than ideal alignment in the easy gears which is where I spend a lot of my time.

I'd go XT but upgrade to an XTR rear derailleur.

On each of my bikes I've gone back to 11sp with an HG driver. Annoying to have to buy the driver but almost every 11sp component is cheaper than 12sp and in my experience lasts longer.

If you end up swapping over, and while not mega cheap, the Garabruk 12 speed HG cassettes are supposedly Quite nice, if you want a decently priced high end option. Had good luck with their 11-46 11 speed a few years ago (similar performance/weight/durability to an xx1 drivetrain). gman, they do xd driver cassettes compatible with Shimano drivetrains too. E13 helix-r chainring are flawless with Shimano chains too, if you just want to use a normal 3 bolt dub crank.

Thanks for all the input. I’ve been wanting to try the Garbaruk cassette for a few years now. I’ll have to check price vs m8100 cassette plus dt Swiss driver. My plan for the shimano XT is a cheap group from Pinkbike or eBay. About $400. And $80 for the driver from Jenson.

I’ve had good shifting on my Garbaruk 10-48 12 spd, paid around $200 from a European retailer this Spring. XD.

I’ve long said we need separate ‘ask the experts’ threads here, but at the risk of turning this into yet another drivetrain thread difficult to find later, I enjoy experimenting with different drivetrain solutions and IME it is tough to beat a medium cage Xx or X01 so-called 11 spd der with a 12 spd shifter and a 9-48 Leonardi or a 10-48 Garbaruk. Shifting is so quick and precise. Get a strong and stiff 7075 aluminum Burgtec UDH hanger and chuckle at the masses falling for the Transmission marketing noise.

It’s irritating that SRAM hasn’t been offering a 9 tooth cog cassette. If you stay at 48T or less, you avoid the need for a derailleur that practically scrapes the ground on a 27.5 rear.

Bike riders suck at math, and somehow think hudge cogs are the answer.

^^^ does that actually work? 11 speed sram derailleurs list 42t as their max capacity. I've heard of pushing that by maybe 2 teeth, but running it with a 48t cog seems like it wouldn't work?

I'll just add Vivo Enduro derailleur and F3 shifter to the mix. I preordered both on a whim but after receiving and riding for the past 3 months I have no regrets. It's quite pricey though. I'm running Vivo with Garbaruk cassette and Enduro crankset.

    Robik just won the internet.

are you using the vivo shifter or a sram one? Out of curiosity.

Vivo F3 shifter. I could probably walk away with SRAM but didn't have any laying around since my last builds were AXS. Also wanted to support those guys in their efforts. It's cool when you can just call the guy and spend 15 minutes on the phone going through all the shapes and variations of each paddle. The shifter doesn't really work with SRAM matchmakers so had to run their clamp.

Looking at all the E-bike reviews that pop up in FB they are all running the Bosch motor, it appears that NO mfger is running the shimano motor

@g_man, the reply with quote doesnt seem to be working. My mechanical E90 transmission has been really good so far and I like the shifter ergonomics. You should stop by a shop and pedal an E90 equipped bike around the parking lot.

I just switched from mech XTR to eagle 90 and am pretty stoked about it. I was going to get the new Di2 but after all the reviews, it just didn&#39;t seem to really be anything super special (while still a very great drivetrain overall) and I&#39;m not going to start using batteries again unless it&#39;s groundbreaking. The one thing I&#39;ve noticed on eagle 90 vs XTR is it definitely controls chainslap much better, and it for sure shifts faster than the electronic t-type. I&#39;m sold so far.</p>

Interesting to see the new XT/Deore electronic launching, and seemingly foregoing SLX trim.

Maybe it’s their way to address the spacing issue mentioned above. XT and SLX too close. Instead of going the SRAM route and adding seven lines to fill in the gaps with the existing nine lines, Shim Shim is gonna drop the middle and just have three lines with obvious jumps for each price point.

Maybe in response to more and more bike companies offering fewer build levels?

Maybe this will push some bike companies to start putting on full XT groups rather than one XT component, the rest SLX, and calling it an XT build (Pivot and Rocky Mountain come to mind).

I've read conflicting info about weather or not Shimano is getting rid of mechanical mtb groups like XT and XTR. I hope to hell this isn't true because there's zero part of me that wants wireless and I was hoping to get a new generation of the XT mechanical groupset. Any clarification?

GRX 1x12 Di2 just dropped today. Same as XTR 10-51 or 10-45 with specific derailleur to match and a specific 12 speed HG+ single chainrings. Shimano is coming out of the woodwork with everything at once.

Seems like a good place for a drive train question I have a new leftover X01 chain the new Eeb has the flat top T-type chain must it be replaced with another T-type or can i still use the X01 ?
does the park go-no-go chain checker still work ?
