    Wearing one contact lens

Anybody ever try the single contact solution? I'm trying it now and it's freaking me out. Not really... but it's pretty weird.

I'm far-sighted. My 40+ yr. old eyes are going through the normal degeneration that makes reading anything at a distance shorter than my arms impossible. I still have better than 20/20 distance vision. The eye doc has tried 3 different prescriptions of contacts and none have worked out... if the near vision is corrected enough to be practical, the distance sucks and vice versa. So... he say's, lets put a contact for reading in your non-dominant eye and leave the other eye alone to handle the distance work. He said it usually takes about a week for the brain to adjust to this and it isn't always successful. Right now, I'm wondering if this guys a total quack, cause this is freaky.

heard of it before sounds semi normal to me (they actually will do this with lasik as well). Why not just buy some reading glasses?

My dad just rocks the two different pairs of glasses. Seems to work for him.

I've done the reading glasses thing for the last few years. It's a PITA because you never have them when you need them. I used to be able to get by without them but not any more. The eye doc thought he could come up with a contact solution that'd work. He's less confident now and this was a last resort.

It is only your vanity that keeps your reading glasses from always being with you.

I vote that you buy a good looking set of glasses and get a zero scrip put in the top and bifocals in the bottom.

but...I do think that the one eye thing will work...

My mom has pretty much the same condition your describing and does it. She was a bit sceptical at first, but it's worked well for her. I think shes been doing it 4 or 5 years and hasn't had any problems. If I recall, it took her a while to get her eyes to adjust, but it was good after that.

I've been in that situation for a while. Reading glasses are a nuisance when you have goggles and a helmet on and are trying to read a map. And they're just one more thing to fog up, get frosty, etc. My eye doctor said the same thing and using one lens works fine for me. Also there are bifocal contacts, but I think they must be the work of the devil and I'll have no truck with that.

    LOL

After just a few hours, I'm pretty well adjusted to it. I was convinced this was just another dumb idea, but it might actually work.

Also... thanks to those who filled me on on how their MOMS and DADS are doing.

I'm wearing rigght now and the benefits are like sticking your hand into a jar of Jiffy Chunky peanut butter, without having a golden retriever around to spell the dancing woodchucks and gnomes that partake within.

Plus my vision is all googly-boogly

Have you tried opening and closing one eye after another real fast yet?

I'm not sure you'll be the same afterward but you only live once.

Heh... just as I was convinced that my brain must be superpowered in order to acclimate this quickly, I found something that looked like a small wad of clear tape on my desk.

It was my wadded up contact.

I'm all googly-boogly again (thanks for that Odin. it's a magical word).
