Which resort gets skied out the slowest?

I'm gonna throw in something completely different. Keystone. I've sat on the chairs with so many people that "hate the powder" (they're on skinny rentals) and certainly won't go skiing in the woods. And Keystone has an open boundary that I'm just starting to explore.

Easy to find untracked snow there.

Wish that place got a little more snow, of course. I've never had a floater day there. Countless untracked turns though.

When Berthoud was around, I would say it was one of the resorts that got skied out the slowest. You could always find powder. Not that it is any different now. Its as crowded now as it was when the lifts were running. Still sick though.

Never been there, but I would guess Silverton would on there as well.

also Beaver Creek. There is some awesome stuff in the trees and good snow usually lasts for a pretty long time.

The hands-down winner would be saddleback of course, and that's with good terrain to boot. Pico was a good bet as late as three or four years ago, and you could get plenty of runs off the high-speed quad, but the word's gotten out; it's not the secret it used to be. I've never been, but I'm sure elevens can vouch for Magic; not as much snow though.

Burke's definitely a good bet. Despite the fact that it has a lot of excellent skiers, a lot of them are racer types that don't venture into the trees. Jay can get tracked out quickly on a busy weekend, otherwise with all the snow it gets, it's a good bet for some decent snow somewhere. Lastly there's stowe; which has so many options, your bound to find some freshies later on if you know where to look.

Ooooh yeah! SnowBasin was all used up when I was there last winter, yet Powder Mountain next door still had a ton of freshies.

BTW, Alpental gets skied out in a hurry.

snowbasin never gets any good snow, so due to the fact that there's nothing to track, it doesn't ever get tracked out

I like what shmerman has to say, although I've never hauled my new york ass up to saddleback. Jay trees do tend to get skied out because everyone knows about them, and Stowe's tend to stay under the radar longer. However, i bestow the prize upon PLATTEKILL. The lifts only spin fri-sun. leaving snow to accumulate all week. And even when they are open no one's ever there. I showed up once on a sunny friday (albeit no new snow) at 10am and got first and seconds tracks off the t-bar. It's in the middle of nowhere though.

My votes go to La Plagne and Flaine. Huge lift systems with a family-friendly focus which means that it's always easy to find covershot pow straight off the top of a lift. Yee-has rarely go to these places.

Cue the "I know a place but I'm not letting on" crew...

I havent been to La Plagne, but i agree with you about Flaine. my first time there was a pow day of sorts and even though i arrived at mid-day I still skiing powder lines all day; some of it right under the chair.

Snowbasin used up? I thought it wouldn't be mentioned on this thread because it's titled "Which resort gets skied out the slowest," not "Which resort never get skied out." You must not have been skiing with any of the Meats family. I was blown away there how much fresh was to be found at the end of the day on a weekend. Amazed.

I think you need to put an asterisk by Plattekill. They seemed to get killed in those thaw/freeze cycles in a way Northern VT/ Maine doesn't. Two feet of untracked fresh is great but two feet of untracked fresh hiding rocks and other crap is another story.

Point taken, but I just always seem to hit Plattekill at a good time. And VT and Maine are certainly not immune to the mid-winter shitty thaw. Like Jay for the first two weeks of January this year. Sucked.
