Adventure nipples is pretty on point
But despite the number of nipples, strap
Ons are still the way #voile

It is an older gravel frame so it definitely lacks mounts and tire clearance.

I'm going to put it up for $700 and see what happens. Tell your friends!

Evdog/406 - do you have .gpx of your Catalina Island trip? It seems like ride w gps won’t route
On some things despite the explore option showing some sections open.

I’m going to head over there for a few days starting this weekend

Finished my Revel Rover build after waiting impatiently for the correct brake adapter. Took it out for a quick spin in the dark to get it all sorted. First proper ride will be this weekend.

I just built up a Rover too!
Sold my medium Why/Revel R+ and picked up a Lg Rover frame, got a Force EXPLR kit and pulled these hookless Zipps off my road bike because 28c is the biggest tire that fits in that frame and I don’t want to die.
So far so good. Feels smoother than the Ti frame in a damp kinda way.

Nice build, the black looks slick. I came from a titanium frame too and he carbon is much more damp and smooth.

How tall are you on the size Large? I'm a little over 6 ft on a Large and I feel like I could've gone with an XL.

I’m a skooch over 5’10”. I’ve got a 70mm stem on it and have 0 offset post with saddle scooted a little forward of center.
I had a 90mm stem on my md R+. The fit was comfortable on that bike, but the head tube was kinda short, so I had 20mm spacers and the stem flipped up and still had as much saddle/bar drop as I could handle.

I really like my Lezyne micro pump but every now and again, when I unthread it, the valve core gets loosened and comes out in the pump. Does anyone know of an adapter chuck to go from threaded to level style that I can use to avoid this?

If you tighten the valve core well that will never happen. You also didn't need to tighten the hose onto the valve stem so much. A combination of loose core and overly tight hose causes the complaints.

Newer hoses also have a little pressure release button that will take tension of the threads and make it less likely to take the valve core out.

But yeah I still don't really like thread on chucks. It was funny that I bought a fancy digital lezyne floor pump and then like a week later ordered a silca chuck. But I suppose for fixing a flat on a ride it's a decent idea as it stays on the valve and the hose means you don't accidentally break the whole valve stem off.

Want to take the plunge and buy my first modern bike. Long time, consistent rider -- commuting, touring, daily living, rec rides up to 100mi in my past. I'm looking for a gravel bike. Realistically 50% paved, 50% gravel/dirt/single track by mileage. No desire to race. Not super gnarly trail riding, but would like clearance for 50s. No headshocks, suspension forks etc. Prefer carbon frame with hope of adding set of carbon road-oriented wheels in the future. This will be the only modern bike in my quiver so riding everything from urban fitness loops, to day long gravel, to bikepacking. Front Range based.

With a budget of $3k what would you be looking at?

I would add the Canyon Grail and Grizl. Both have CF models for under $3K.

Trek Checkpoint too. Lots of options out there and some bargains to be had. Especially if a dealer is sitting on any prior year models.

Definitely check tire clearance, not every bike has clearance for [emoji6[emoji640][emoji637]][emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]]]’s. Also check gearing, not every bike comes geared for Front Range climbs. (I run a [emoji638]x with a [emoji639][emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]]]/[emoji639][emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]] low, but I am old and slow.)

You do need the current version of the checkpoint for official 50mm tire clearance, the previous one is like 45-48ish. But a 45mm tire is pretty nice. The SL5 is 3200 with apex axs, which, maybe not a great value compared to some canyons and whatnot. Plus the trek/bontrager tires are pretty bad. A lot of trek's prices seem a little high to me right now and i bet in the spring they discount a good amount of stuff for "trekfest." Pretty well liked and versatile bike though with a lot of mounts for bags and shit.

For other bikes Kona's new ouroboros fits 50s but might be a little too slack/upright/offroad oriented for an all around bike. Kona loves to do the short reach, super tall stack thing which may or may not work for you.

Carbon cannondale topstons i think will fit close to a 50

Helpful feedback all -- thanks. 50 isn't a hard cut off for me -- more a recognition of wanting a versatile bike that I can throw some beefier tires on if the tour calls for it. I suspect most times i'll be around a 42ish tire.

Checkpoint is bike I keep coming back to. $3200 + tax is bit rich currently. I've seen a few gen 2s around but seems like I want something with UDH if I'm going to keep the bike a good long while?

This also popped up in my searching. Know Rocky is in financial trouble...but checks a lot of boxes. Maps very closely on to Checkpoint of same size according to bike insights -- carbon, udh, rival axs, lots of mounts... https://www.jensonusa.com/Rocky-Moun...rbon-70-Bike-1
