You do realize that NADA and KBB values have become entirely superfluous, right?
Rarely do they align with market realities from what I've been seeing. For better or worse.

Yup, we're looking for a blobmobile and apparently an Atlas is a Kia.
I may have to gain access to some secret compact SUV dungeon to get anywhere in this search.
The only part that doesn't make sense is anyone referring to me as the OP, since that was Bunny and I really don't want to be mistaken for him.
Yup, the Honda dealer we went to last night had 6 CR-V's on the lot, all of them sold. The next wave of eight coming in only two are not sold.
Kind of my impression so far, the GF is a real budget watcher so it's going to take a bit for her to realize she's not going to be getting much of if not any discount off sticker.
Both dealers I went to last night said they had more inventory to sell than what is on the lot, quite a bit of what they show as 'for sale' is in transit and/or waiting for an assembly date still.
She'd probably kill me but I'll ask.

OH, ok then. So since she does car valuations for a living, no wonder you thought you landed a "deal." She's part of the biz, which as of the last 3 years, has indeed been fukt. Ya know, the sales manager I talked to also told me that the used wagon I was looking at was a great price. [checked manufacturer's website which showed me they were asking damn year MSRP] "No, sir. I do not agree with that assessment." He too was in the business of car valuations. Haha. But cool. You got a few G's knocked off a FOUR YEAR OLD average SUV. Great job. Whatever makes you feel better about the state of things. But don't kid yourself. Just cuz you are under the delusion that you made off super well with that one, does not make it so. You still got kinda boned, no lube. Just like the rest of us these days. Not singling you out. We've ALL been in the same boat. Only talking some trash here because you've proclaimed multiple times on this forum that the state of the car market really isn't so bad cuz your so-called great deal.
Nowadays when you talk to people about their new cars, they act like they got treated so well by "ONLY" paying retail price. People's deal-o-meters all need to be seriously recalibrated.
Quoted for Touring to see. My point remains. You experienced EXACTLY what I did, but in regard to Civics. And THEN when one came in, a salesman called and said I could buy it (in the wrong color - I wanted white, that's not asking for much), but they wanted a hudge "market adjustment" fee, at which point I told the salesman to tell his sales manager to kindly go eff himself after he came back with a "deal" of only a 6K markup. I was annoyed.
Ya, my Subaru was bought sight unseen. It was part of an incoming allotment that was close enough to the options I wanted and a color I could live with. It took 5 weeks for delivery.
I've seen Jimmy here and there on his boat in the islands and he is a 100% legit sailor, and from everything I've heard, a hell of a guy.
But man, the whole Margaritaville brand is just so cringeworthy to me. It's like The Villages in Florida distilled into an ethos.
I still call it The Jake.
Musical Flavor Town.
Lol that’s pretty spot on. But I’m guilty of eating some disco biscuits and seeing Buffett a bunch circa 96-99.
He’s not completely illegitimate. West Texas period, Jerry Jeff Walker periods, early Down to Earth album, High Cumberland Jubilee had some great tracks. Shit went downhill when he started into the steel drums and boat drinks but I can’t blame him for leaning into that billion dollar business. There are still worse things that having a g and t on the boat with a few Banana Wind tracks on in the background.

Been shopping the past few weeks. VW dealer had decent stock and was willing to haggle. The guy said he thought they're still dealing with an image problem. Kia/Hyundai are suffering from the Kia Challenge. Lots of insurance companies have boosted rates or are outright refusing to cover them. My agent suggested I avoid for a bit until updates are broadly applied. Volvo has very limited car availability but decent SUV stock and dealers we talked to had some credits they were able to work with.
Honda/Acura and Toyota/Lexus dealerships are sparse and they're not budging on what little they have. I've had great luck with the email price battle in the past, but have gotten nowhere so far. It's bizarre. I've tried to avoid Subaru, but that's where we're headed next. Haven't paid attention to domestics or other Euros.
Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.
I'd check into some of them just so you can make as educated a decision as possible. I wonder if Cadillac, Lincoln, or Mercedes are motivated sellers these days? If you want Lexus, I've seen some decent prices on the larger used sedans but in the private party sector. Ford's smoking crack these days. Stopped by a dealer and asked what the cheapest vehicle they had on the lot was. An Escape... for 32 THOUSAND dollars. For a Ford. That's supposed to be cheap. WTF?! RIP Fiesta/Focus/Fusion.![]()
Drove a couple Mazda’s last night, CX 5/50 are pretty nice cars. A little weird how much hood they have compared to cargo space.
Drove by another Toyota dealer lot today, it’s comical how they space the cars out to make the lot look full-ish

Today while out working I drove by 3 mostly empty Toyota dealers, 2 half empty Honda dealers and all sorts of others that were mostly full. Kia/Hyundai and Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge are in pretty much the best shape, Subaru is weak, Nissan is strong enough.
I guess this is the thread to ask in. Although I could have asked in the Truck thread or Bobby’s used car thread and if those are better places please direct me.
I have been half heartedly looking for a truck for a dozen years or so. Rationalized I got by with a utility trailer, borrowing or renting not to fully justify the purchase. Anyways serious now. I have bought one vehicle that wasn’t a private sale. Looking for a full-size gaser with an extra cab 4x4 and at least a six foot bed, eventually adding a camper. Budget is about 15k, but I could stretch to 20. Preference is Tundra, F150, Silverado. Any advice here welcome.
Long winded intro, thanks for bearing with me. With my budget, I want to buy a car from N. Carolina South to find an older model with no frame rust and drive it home. Thinking to just book a cheap flight to Charlotte and try to find a car using all the available online searches. This seems much more time crunched than I am used to. Wondering what has worked for folks traveling to buy a car.
