    Front Range Omnivores: Please Read

Any front ranger's interested in going in on part of a hog/sheep or want some chickens?

4-H livestock sale's this weekend (arapahoe county) thinking about pulling together a bankroll and heading out to stock up the deep freeeeze.

Sounds plum tempting, but I done broken one of the wheels on my wagon. I'm going to to try and trade some beads to the indians and see if they'll fix it.

Unknown at this time, should come out to be < $3/lb for anything (processed price) chickens have to be even cheaper. I will personally kill any chickens for people but if you want me to process them that'll be an extra couple of bucks ($5/per) cause that's a PITA but will kill free for the squeamish.

I'll handle all of the processing details (except chickens as noted above) so it'll just be packaged meat. I have to call them here in a little while and will try to get some ballpark on hoof prices.

Cool. Keep me posted and if it'll help, we can rally several more investors-with-appetites.

can do, I have a couple of potential's lined up as well, might make sense to get two pigs, that way I can have a whole half as can someone else or we could do 6 add'l quarters. Sheep probably just split in two, they're small.

I'd prolly be down for a quarter even though I've got a quarter lined up from fair. I don't want any ham steak or lunch meat however. Do you have a butcher in mind? I hear Pinner is real picky about his sausage. Also, if you say "yes" to pig, make sure you have freezer space availible.

It's a fine piece of meat reserved for only the very best ho's.

okay, looks like the lambs are expensive little fuckers as are the chickens so unless I get a bargain will prolly skip on those.

Foggy- will likely just go with the Deer Trail Locker since that way I don't have to deal with transporting live or carcass, talked to them and it seems like an okay place.

    For a hog:

    kill fee = 25 bucks
    processing = .42/# cut/wrapped + .08/# sausage spices + .35/# curing (bacon/ham)

per the 4H coordinator avg hog = 225-250#s and usually sells for 375-400 bucks. That probably works out to about $3.5/pound maybe less (depending on how good a buy I make).

I'll have to figure out how many people are interested but will want some kind of up front commitment (sale = cash/check only)

Pinner- I do have a line on cattle as well but don't want to buy one right now as that means too much meat in the freeze and too much $ locked up in initial investment plus getting a cow is signing on for a LOT more meat.

    ps- I'm outty for today.

You see that Mortimer... Winthorp just made us an extra $250,000 investing in those pork bellies. Okay who wants in on frozen concentrated orange juice?

Mission Babe, Pig In My Tummy: Off to a promising start.

Will have more details re: butchering here shortly.

For once I even attended an auction and didn't bid against myself.

Have a buddy that will be whacking up to a dozen head of his elk herd by this winter. Let me know if you're interested in any delicious South Dakotie ranch raised elk, what you'd like, etc. I think he'll have some ready for delivery by Thanksgiving, Christmas at the latest. I'm not sure if he's going to sell it as processed/packaged or just cut off the bone. In the past he's done it both ways, but the damn CWD test has become an unexpected expense so he has tended to sly away from going nutty and having it sausaged, jerkeyed, packaged into neat little parcels.
At any rate, let me know if interested.

    Yup. I love elk.

If your friend can get it to us for less than the usual $25/lb charged around here, I'm in for sure.
