Nice thread... Nothing to share music wise, but a fun story of my first time in Bluegrass country.

A buddy and I attend a MTB race in Mountain View, Arkansas and get a hotel right off the county courthouse square in the center of town. After Saturdays race, we go to the local BBQ joint for dinner and notice this small town is fairly busy for a Saturday night (dry county). When we finish and walk back outside we find a concert on the porch of the music store, amazing bluegrass. After watching for awhile we notice other groups have formed in various yards and grassy sections of the courthouse lawn. Adults, teenagers, some were younger. All were playing and practicing bluegrass. Fiddlers, mandolins, banjos, etc. Come to find out from a local that this happened every week when the weather permits. Really cool experience to see, it was like they all rolled out of the hills for some movie scene.

I think that Mountain View held some national competition every year and was well known for the music.

Found a festival for the town:

BTW - challenging mtb nearby and apparently some great fishing just north of there.

there is a separate forum for music for a reason, it last longer and leaves this places for sports and other silliness.

Had you perused it you may have found this and other gems

I like my country music. I tried to pick out some songs/artists that aren't played as much - hard to find them fancy videos. The last one probably isn't good to be played in anyone's work place...

Is this thread about Country or BlueGrass? Because the two are mutually exclusive.

What about the old time hippy bluegrass? Talking about old time--saw Doc Watson, Earl Scruggs, and Ralph Stanley at Hardly Strictly one year, one after the other, combined age about 270. All 3 of them could still play and/or sing really, really well. All gone now.

Anyone who loves BG or alt country or both should try and make it to Hardly Strictly Bluegrass in SF some year. I haven't been since Warren Hellman died so maybe it isn't what it was--as good of a music festival as has ever taken place on the planet, and free. At least in the past it mainly featured older, established acts, not 20 somethings, so the younger amongst you might not enjoy, but excellent dentist music.
