Hey Cody,

As respectfully as I can I’d like to add that it would be awesome if you could use your platform with Salomon to try to get them to fix the floppy heel riser issue in the MTN pin bindings. My own small sample size but 4 of 4 of these bindings that my household/close touring partners have with over 150 days have completely floppy, friction free heel risers. Other shop techs I’ve talked to have had similar observations, though maybe not quite to the same extent as myself.

I understand the point of marketing copy and promoting brands but this is absolutely an issue that fixing could make the binding better, especially for those that actually ski a lot. Those MTN bindings are sweet and I have a lot of respect for the brand/everything you’ve added to skiing, just disagree with you on this one part. Thanks

Brakes are for opsie transitions. Leashes are so the ski is not lost when it pops off.

The funny part about that quote, was I didn't form it until I started talking to local shops about the MTN versus other pins and their preference for selling it because it has had, in their words, the lowest rate of AR's / Returns / Warranty Issues of any pin binding they've ever sold. Though I have a couple pair that have gone multiple seasons, the fact is, it's hard for me to test multi-year durability on certain products since I get them shipped for free to me every year. The only things I'm currently engaged in multiyear durability tests are my HMG packs, Hestra Gloves, a couple pair of Salomon boots and hardware. So I say this as not someone that's spewing bullshit to sell things, that quote came from the people that are selling them and seeing their return rate in the wild.

That being said, I haven't had a floppy riser issue, or even heard of one, until now. The only issue I've heard reported here and there is brake releases while touring. Otherwise, I wouldn't worry, lots of Salomon employees comb these pages seeing what people are saying, so if it is a widespread issue, then I'm sure they know about it and are working on it if it seems like a widespread issue.

The opening sequence or intro was damn good. Cody and team have come a long way with their production. Probably like most mags I enjoyed it for the climb, ski, and adventure aspects imagining ourselves right there with him, so the og episodes were awesome, but now the new are refined and just providing even more overall enjoyment. And yeah, the conditions look more fun too!

It's so amazing these days when we actually get to film with a drone. It's kind of the only way to give so many of the lines we do perspective, capture the beauty and give that "bigness" feel of the mountains. But alas, you're right, a strong majority of the lines from the FIFTY, probably 9 out of 10, are in wilderness areas so we can't and don't fly them. But man it's a treat when they're not banned for the production side of things.

If I may briefly add to the thread drift regarding the heel risers on the MTN: I also have had lots of problems with floppy heel risers, specifically the higest riser. On my old MTN's, after several seasons of heavy use, the floppy riser became insanely frustrating, and I ditched the bindings. But otherwise I loved them and so just recently bought a new pair. With much sadness, on the first day of touring on them, I realized the exact same problem. The highest riser flops back and into a vertical position with the slightest jiggle, making them essentially useless. Every 10 steps I looked down to see that one or both of the risers had flopped out of the way. Very frustrating. I was hoping the new version had solved this problem.

Yeah yeah, "tech talk jong". I know.

Big day at Robson today Christina Lustenberger and Guillaume Pierrel (I don't know much about him) climbed Mount Robson and skied the south face for a first decent of that side. I think you were looking at the North Face but this one is pretty epic. I guess the time to go is after a tonne of high pressure and low snow although I am sure there is more than just that.
