Holy fuck. I was gripped. Watching you gripped.

Viv is amazing. How did he lead that last pitch. Fuck.

My only criticism would be that on a shoot like that the videographer should have more feature. He climbed and skied the same shit. Yeah. His turns may not have been as smooth. And I’m sure he’s more comfortable behind the lens or the drone. But damn. He was there.

PS. Excellent narration. I agree with the Warren miller story telling. Better than him. Good pacing and storytelling. Well done.

Absolutely incredible episode. My god that snow-covered-dirt me nervous as hell.

Loved the shot at the end of the local guide learning to ski. Did they just hang out at base camp the entire time?

Holy mother of God and all that is holy and baby Jesus. That was one of the best ski films i've seen. Is there a rating I can give it better than A+? There's got to be something in the Greek alphabet right?

As amazing and inspiring as all of these have been this one really stands out!
I would assume we’ve all at some point skied with a guide and been in total awe of their abilities.
Seeing you guys enjoy learning from Vivian after all your exploits and have the humility to make this the focus of the film makes it all that much more relatable to us mere mortals.

    The FIFTY

Unbelievable episode and adventure. Each line had my heart racing. Those drone shots looking down the couloirs from above are so sick. And that insane shot at the beginning of the ski down the Polar Star? Holy fuck!

Awesome adventure and recording, but I have one criticism: insufficient onesie.

    That was actually wild.

Wife and I loved the video. Damn though had to charter Summits ATR. Crazy that nothing else was available.

As far as the charter flights, well they weren’t jets so didn’t get in the six figure range…but the trip was on the six figure range in total and the flights could’ve been exchanged for a nice new Beamer or something. I could’ve done the trip cheaper, but with a much longer time window and far less guarantees on getting there. No matter what, even flying the most cheap commercial is going to minimum set ya back $5k-$10k round trip per person minus baggage fees (which are steep!) it’s not a cheap place to go and we paid handsomely for the hired help while in Baffin.

Awesome film. The Fifty is the only ski film that i can get my wife to watch. She genuinely enjoys the fact that there's a real story line and the content is about the process rather than just showing off the highlights.

I didn't look closely, but was Vivian leading on a Rad Line or did you have a dynamic rope for the sharp end stuff? Either way, watching others lead sketchy, poorly protected, mixed climbing is way better than doing it myself.

Super cool to get some insight into Vivian Bruchez. I think I'll finally rent "T'es pas bien là?" or "Le Diamant Des Alpes"

Seriously, that has to be my favorite ski movie/episode of all time. The scenery, editing, and narration are really top notch.

Thanks for sharing your adventures with this little corner of the internet.

    Side biz question.
    How does this get monetized?
Sponsors yeah. But that can’t be enough for an expedition like this?
YouTube clicks? If so I’ll play it a few hundred more times in the background.

This type of adventure where skiing and mountaineering cross is great to see.

I really appreciate that lighter gear is being used and that skill and technique is being emphasized.

    Thanks

Just another kudos to this piece of film making. Really on the next level from most ski media we get these days.

Was stunning to see on the big screen at the Oriental. Plus Drew is fantastic MC for the QST tour.

    my Apology to Cody -
I saw the Air Canada jet taxiing, and when he talked of 'chartering the big plane for the flight' to Baffin Island, I thought that was the plane he meant -

I have other references to NetJets and am surprised to see their base fee has doubled in four years...

    Please ! !!
    get this Done ( The Fifty ) Safe-ly ! !
I will be haunted by the rockfall clips from the final coulior... ( Fiesta (?) )

    my Apology for my confusion.
    respectfully. skiJ

It gets monetized by data, ingenuity and value. I'll leave it at that. I could arguably have started off with a better business plan for the project, but ultimately it was such different concept, medium and format that the first year was simply just a prove it year for myself, sponsors and partners. From there, then my main focus became getting it fully funded--first year was about 75% funded--getting better at what we were doing and ticking off lines. There was a reason this was one of the last lines and it wasn't because of difficulty, it was because of funding. Otherwise, it's been such a full throttle project in so many ways that I never got the opportunity to truly figure out how to create a better business plan around it.
