    The FIFTY

Have been expecting more frequent failure as the project nears completion because the remaining lines are no doubt stacked with the most difficult/dangerous/conditions-dependent on the list. How are you feeling about tick lists at this point, Cody? They exist for a reason (stacks of great goals), but the list itself can become more of a goal than the individual ticks.

    FWIW he's 24.

And yes, his videos don't have the polish of Cody's, but he's essentially a nobody, with limited spansership and appears to do most of the work himself. Cody+Bjarne+editing team are at a pretty different production level. Apples to oranges.

Yeah I was gonna say the same thing. It’s really hard to make movies / episodes and takes quite a lot of budget that is really hard to acquire in this industry. Even as an vet with a lot of awards and stuff, I still paid outta pocket for the first year of The Fifty. Essentially what he’s doing is what you have to do in the beginning stages.

To the next comment above. Yeah there is going to be more failure / attempts in the future with the difficultly of lines coming up. Same time, I’ll have more time to spend with one line, instead of chasing quantity across North America. The irony of this whole project is I’m generally against tick list projects. I just don’t like the way it narrows your objectives and disallows for adaptability to conditions. For instance, on Comstock we may have come around the corner, saw it was shit bird and gone and skied something else rad. But we had to wait it out in the attempt to check it off the list. That being said, I really really like the places it’s taken me, the learning I’ve gotten from each range, individual and culture of backcountry skiing from those places and really want to at least try the cruxes that are left. I started this project off as a freerider that had little ski mountaineering experience. I’ve learned a lot over the past few years and hopefully those lesson equate to the skills to climb and ski those cruxes. At least that was my intentions when I started it.

Not as far as I know. I think Michael is related to the Wirth family that has been in Aspen since the 40s and ran the Sundeck and Sam's Knob restaurants on-mountain.

No, if he was he'd likely be an investment banker ruining companies, not skiing big lines.

I'm stoked to watch the new season of the Fifty! It's the best entertainment going. Watching Cody back off of big lines is also a great way for backcountry skiers to remember that even the best skiers have to respect the conditions. I think more ski media should show this kind of decision making.

Just watched the latest episode. Well done Cody and especially Elyse.

I'm definitely going soft but having 2 young kids myself and struggling with trying to get out and ski on my own (let alone with my wife) this one is up there with my favorites so far.

Thankfully my wife was also able to 'bounce forward' and bring me along for the ride. Now that we are finally able to get out and ski together as a family it has made those early years all the more worth it. It certainly seems like you already have your priorities in order Alka.

And now I start the waiting game for the next episode...

Im not sure but i dont think its on of the 50's just the right choice for that particular day. Its a good choice a lot of days. That whole valley is filled with stellar choices and various options but 7 steps is undoubtedly the most classic. Looong consistent slope

Another fantastic episode. And I love how it is wholly different than any previous one.

"Meadow skipping pow run" What's your point? That looks like a fine use of ski day and one I'd be happy to experience

Kind of a stalker strategy that I don't much care for, but that was some damn fine skiing for sure.

The piggybacking is now a little bit annoying. Also bumped his upload day from Fri to Thurs which presumably is a strategic play. That said, I do enjoy the episodes. And it's not like he's gonna take viewers AWAY from Cody. The rawer footage and use of POV gives a better feeling of the tour. I even enjoy just hearing the noises of his boots and bindings while he's climbing along the drainage.

Thats what i was thinking. Its a bit meadow skippy in the middle but the top and bottom few pitches are decent slopes. Its an outstanding lap
