Echoing what others have said. Great storytelling and editing. Thanks for showing the discussions about weather and stability. Also love that there’s a whole “unsuccessful” episode and not glorifying taking unnecessary risks. Stoked for this season. Good luck with whichever projects remain for this winter season.

We've seen other unsuccessful missions on the Fifty. What hit me about this one is leading off a season with it. Sets the tone for things to come and is a very honest feel for what trying to ski these lines is like.

Michael Wirth grabbed a solo descent of the Comstock (the 2nd?) with a day trip in early April. Looking forward to the Canadian content in the next episodes.

I was wondering how it would be taken, leading the season with a fail. So far so good. What was weird too was the Scout Day and Attempt Day were about three weeks apart and we went for two other lines on the in between. So I justifiable could've put it anywhere but in a certain way, wanted to lead with a fail from a personal desire to continue to illustrate these lines aren't gimmes in the slightest and we put a ton of effort into making smart, sustainable decisions. There is a reason Greg Hill is still alive after skiing as big, complex and gnarly of mountains as the Selkirks are for 20+ years and I try to match my philosophy on observations and decision making a lot off of his.

As they say, "summiting is optional, getting home is mandatory."

I didn't think anything of as far as a fail, only what happens when smart decision making prevails over ego. I have turned back on many objectives, and (so far) have made it home every time. I appreciate the candid decision making shown in the film. Good film, as always.

As we were just watching the Comstock episode, my wife asked “I wonder what music Cody listens to?” So I have to ask, what’s on the current rotation? [emoji869]

Great to see an attempt that didn’t pan out. Success isn’t measured in always bagging a line, it’s getting home and learning.

I remember 7yrs ago seeing the Comstock the first time skinning up the back of Swanzy on an annual trip to Rogers Pass.
I asked my local partner about it, and in his usual humble way, he said it’s a great line, long way out, and he and a bunch of friends had ‘gang banged’ it several years previous.
That day we had a great ride down the Tuzo, and it was a yr or 2 later I looked through the 50 Classics to see that they were the only ones to ski it-lol.
In the books summary even spelled his last name wrong-Hartley not Hardey.

Looking forward to another seasons episodes Alkasqualik.

I felt the same. Through the great story telling, you could feel the struggle for a weather window and better conditions. I really enjoyed the time stamp on the ridge when they were hanging out.
Overall, super excited to see what comes from the remaining part of the season.

This is why I've told a half dozen parents who's kids are interested in getting into the backcountry -- besides avalanche awareness and education -- there are few better ways to spend an hour or two than watching Fifty episodes and talking about them as a family.
