our sewer system has been out of commission for almost a week now. we've been dumping in a hole in the ground. the sewage treatment plant is going to use less energy to process the waste since our waste isn't in there. that just might offset the entire flight from Yellowknife to Clyde River. Doing our little part to support The Fifty

Using this data? 93g CO2 per seat per km.

Lots of reasonable assumptions have to be made to get energy consumption and CO2 emissions and different reasonable assumptions can get very different results.
I generally do too, mainly because they're always emotionally driven and related to a feeling of 'luxury'. No one is yelling at the plumber that works in SF because it pays the most but lives in Vacaville because it's the only place they can afford and has to commute 500 miles a week to work in their 97 Dodge pickup getting 13mpg because that would be a dick move, despite that guy putting out more C02 commuting than an average American does in a year in total. We all latch on to individual's perceived luxury items to cast judgement, when the problem is a corrupt ass corporate and political system that has globally stalled 50+ years of any sort of change.
BUT! I will say, individual sacrifice will have to come, but mainly by the people that are more well off. Not in terms of stopping everything they do, but the financially comfortable should be the first to be paying exorbitant sums of money for regenerative power, emission friendly transportation and for off-setting of costs so that green technology is cheaper, safer and easier than fossil fuel driven energy for the rest of the people....but considering the current state of the wealthy and government and corporations...my hope for that is chillier than an a penguins asshole.
Anyways, random digression. Oh and thanks Romeo Tango...your sacrifice is duly noted...Lastly, trust me when I do factor C02 footprints into my decisions. I can't stop, just like everyone here ain't gonna stop being polluters, but I can get better.
If you did all your descents on snowblades, think of how far that would go to emissions reduction.

Thanks Cody! once the roto-rooter guy is finished, i'm going to make everyone dump in the hole for another week to offset the return flight

Here is the best way to reduce greenhouse gasses on an individual basis. Which I am violating because I have 1 kid.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volunt...%20degradation.
Actually... there is 1 way to make even less impact than this... I'll let you all guess.

Didn’t even check in but I guarantee it’s not having kids and killing yourself…that’s the best way to reduce your impact. Which when you follow all paths of personal reduction it always goes to those two places, which is exactly the fucking thing we are all trying to avoid.
Anyways, the one thing I have said is I didn’t do this project for climate impacts. It definitely has lessened my impacts compared to freeride career but the motivation never laid for climate impact, it was a little bit of an side benefit but opening that door just opens the door to personal reduction that only ends at being a hermit or dying.
Have been watching from the beginning…just an excellent series/story.
Daughters are home from college for the week….Wife and I started back at Episode 1 with them this weekend …it will be our family binge this week as we introduce The Fifty to them…
15 episodes in…they love it.
Yup... having no kids is the "voluntary human extinction movement."
I'm being cheeky but the point being that we all need to have a life... make sacrifices where you can and then stop worrying about it. As far as I know there's no implication on the second point... that's my cheeky add-on.
I.e. try to have an impact but don't stop living your life. I have a kid myself so I'm obviously not part of the movement. Or maybe I am because I'm only having 1?

Dude just call the plumber from Vacaville, guaranteed he’ll get the job done. It might take him a day or two to get there in his beat ass truck, and totally ruin any carbon offset your squatting hole has accumulated. Cody says he’s alright so go for it.

I'm definitely trying to avoid having a child. Consider it my contribution to reduction. I don't mind firing up my old diesel anymore.

What about making skis out of green algae? Make everything out of algae. Eat only algae. Adopt parentless algae. Problem solved. You're welcome.
I'm going to launch a brand of condoms called "Save the Planet." Haha. Then it will come out that I have three kids and I'll get cancelled.
But for real, there's so much of this bullshit tied into the snow sports community (or commentary) in recent years. Some person who is just doing their best to make a living and commuting to work 5 days per week likely has a significantly higher CO2 output, then goes online and gives a pro skier shit for riding on a heli. Do some basic math you moron. Drives me crazy.
While I appreciate that my little rant was well received I also don't want to derail this thread. Cody - given the limitations of the number of lines remaining, the grandiose size of some of these episodes, how many more do you anticipate putting out there this season?
Yeah, that is always my thought also. This is Cody's JOB! Everyone needs to look at their job and the environmental footprint of their industry before throwing stones. Mine certainly is horrendous as I'm in the electrical world. The national meetings where a bunch of idiots (myself included here) fly to wherever usa for a dumb meeting is such a waste. Manufacturers have come a long way, but the Siemens, ABB, Philips, etc., can be doing more.
I’m not worried about his heli usage, but helicopters are about 700lbs CO2 output per hour vs cars with approximately 1500kg per year for a medium sized car. I’m not doing the conversions or math. But I’m guessing your Cody is burning more than the desk jockey driving to work in a year. Worth it.

throughout the Project, Cody and Bjarne have had hundreds of days using minimal electricity, dumping in holes and living in a van down by the river .... one of you brain scientists should calculate the carbon offset of that ....

I was waiting for my husband to get back from a trip to watch the episode so finally got to see it- and it was excellent to echo the rest.
When you nailed the line early I remarked aloud about what the rest of the video would be about and my husband said -“now they go freeskiing!” And it did not disappoint.
That chinese finger trap protection that was used in the mixed climbing route that you just “pull” down a dozen times [emoji33]
Also liked seeing muted’s name on the credits too!

Bump. Elyse and Jackie's new film dropped last week for free on RedBull TV, give it a watch: https://www.redbull.com/us-en/films/here-hold-my-kid
I watched it last night with my wife and we enjoyed it, both as skiers and parents. Jackie and Elyse did some ripping skiing (moms throwing backies???) and Cody+Reine's cameos were funny. Good stuff and worth the watch.
