As a German car mechanic in Tahoe area, I've worked on more camper converted Sprinters than I can count. They mostly suck for almost everything. If you're single, no kids, I could make it fly. With a family? Hell no. And at those prices?? I have a small (18') 4-season trailer. I paid $18k for it. Even new, I'd be into that and my Ram 2500 CTD for far less than $130k. It can go anywhere a Sprinter can and be vastly more comfortable/versatile.

If I did a Sprinter it would be 100% a ski resort mobile. Diesel heater, space to change, small hot plate and maybe a bed to lounge on. No full kitchen. A real back seat for my kids.

    Sorry... rambling on, here.
As someone who converted a sprinter for under 20k (including the sprinter) back in 2014 that is still running today with over 300k miles on it, I somewhat disagree. Hutchski, the owner, has had to fork out some serious cash at times to fix it, but it's also been on some incredible adventures with quite a bit of serious off roading in a 2 wheel long body. Finding a mechanic to work on it was always one of the biggest challenges.

A guy I work with has an awesome ski resort lot / boat ramp sprinter setup. Bench seat far back, wardrobe / cubbies opposite the door, tiny fold down table on the door side…. No bed, no kitchen.

Hoping for a video on Cody's replacement.

I thought I saw somewhere (BaT comments? Instagram?) that part of the reason this van was on the market was Cody needing a new layout to accommodate the growing family.

Although I suppose it could go the other way--instead of trying to accommodate the family, just go back to barebones truck topper for remaining FIFTY-style missions and figure something else out for future family use.

20-foot class C is the way to go for the camping-with-little-kids phase IMO.

I haven’t been tracking/stocking Cody or watching conditions lately, but university is a big lift.

I remember a longer convo with B-rad after his attempt in 2000(?). A lot of storm days with a 1 or 2-day window to attempt the big face. Wx tech and communications were different then compared to now. It would be a HUGE feat, even outside of the 50 project.

I would guess they had blocked more time in their calendar to pull off the ski for Polar Star. Even though the skied it pretty soon after getting settled on Baffin I don't think they would have time to get assemble and get over to University now. I have no clue what conditions around the University-St Elias zone are, but looking back historically it seems to be targeted more as an April ski:

In 2002 Lorne Glick's crew's first descent was skied in early April; another crew did a near-summit descent on April 18th and Chilton and Korthals did a full descent again on May 13th. Martin Lefebvre did his South Face descent in May of 2013. Erin Smart's crew did an April attempt in 2016 and were turned back by warm weather. I would guess that mid-May starts to present pretty fickle for weather and conditions.

Because you said "all the others will be done" besides St. Elias and I don't think you're basing that on anything factual. Correct me if I'm wrong. Aside from University, what about Robson? Where are you getting your information?

I also got to talk to b-rad shortly after his time on Baffin Island (2000?). I’d feel bad for our thread heros if they only got to ski polar star.

Don’t worry about our heroes, sounds like they’re lighting up the zone:

That's gonna be a hell of an episode. I hope they show all the stuff they're skiing, not just Polar Star.

Robson is going to be a tough one to nail for good reason. Only skied by two parties in almost 30 years for a reason. Good luck Cody & Bjarne We are all rooting for you guys!

I'll clear up any speculation: Just got back from Baffin with Vivian and Bjarne....along with Brennan Lagasse and Jeff Dostie and a client, who were sharing camp and logistics but skiing separately of us. As Viv posts states, we skied Polar Star, but the story to get there and what happened in there is worthy of a movie alone. After that though, there was no way I was going to Baffin Island to ski one line. So we had 10 days to tick off as much as we could. The trip was one of the best of my life and Viv is not only one of the best steep skiers / ski mountaineers in the world, but just an incredibly awesome human.

For the rest, been keeping tabs on Robson and it's in rough shape from what I'm hearing. University probably is gonna get my first try next year. Next up though, St. Elias round 2.
