I also could just throw some alpine binders on them — forget about touring with them and get to use them whenever it’s decently soft inbounds. But I also have a one-eighty-four DW.

Gonna be analysis paralysis with this one for sure. Part me of also just want to choose the binding that “future-proofs” it the most as there’s a chance it’ll one day not be available to buy again.

Will also be a proud future owner of 186 GTs. I know the average mag on here can/will size up without issue, but I did chat with Moment and they were pretty quick to point me to the 186. Also had to be honest with myself on my age and conditioning, hope I don't lose mag points for this decision ha.

Picked up some 146 Carson's for the grom, he loves them so far. Tuning question ,figured I'd post here. Moment says on their site that all their skis are tuned out of the box 1.5 base 1.5 edge bevel. That's an odd number. What guide are you all using to tune these things? I'm guessing a 2 deg side edge guide?

Not specific to Carsons, but I would say it really depends on terrain/conditions. I usually leave my base bevel alone and tune the side bevel depending on level of grip I'm looking for. I find on my C98's, which I presume have the same 1.5deg base bevel but I only have a 1deg base bevel guide so cant really confirm other than saying they are at least 1deg, that I dont get good edge hold in really firm conditions until i put a 2deg side bevel on. If i know things will be soft for a while and I will be spending a lot of time off piste I may retune it to a 1deg side bevel for a little more playfulness, but I've been happy with the 2deg in our current PNW high pressure. Thats just my experience with the Moment factory base bevel, so may be different with your specific use though.

I’d agree with Going Coastal. If it’s softer 1/1 is an option. If it’s firmer 1/2. The 1.5/1.5 is nice for a looser feel but the at home tools for those angles aren’t too accessible

Countach 104 is a really cool ski. Works good in firm, but the dw104 just gives you more versatility across a wider range of conditions. Since you’d be using these for patrol you’ll have to use them in a bunch of different conditions. I’d go dw104 all day for that use.

Awesome, I appreciate the advice. I was leaning that way anyways. Haven’t had snow in several weeks and all my other skis favor soft snow a little too much

I'd say countach, but only have experience with the bigger brother countach and deathwish variants. The CT is way more fun on groomers, actually pulls you into a turn. The CT is also better for skiing deep fresh snow imo. Wider tip and more rearward mount help the float tremendously. The DW is certainly looser when things are soft and chopped, but I wouldn't call the CT locked in by any means. Twin tips can also be annoying kind of annoying when dragging a toboggan ime.

just bought a one way ticket on the Ghost Train, can’t wait for them to come in (and for us to actually get some snow). had a blast on my new Meridians in Utah last weekend, such a fun ski and will definitely be my daily driver moving forward

If you loved the meridians you’re gonna have a blast on the GT. Those are two of my absolute favorite skis.

I'm looking for some feedback on the Commander 102 and how it stacks up against skis like the DW 104, Countach 104, and even something like the Enforcer 104 Free (or the new 104). I currently have the DW 104 and have also ridden the WC 108 and CB in the past. I'm aiming for something different—more directional, with a strong charging vibe, but still playful. Com 102 would not be a ski I’d call playful. It’s very much a directional charger. Countach 104 would be what you’d want if you want a semi directional charger that still has a playful side.

CT 104 is what you want. Plenty of charge. I’m 6’2 215 and love to charge. What it can do that the commander can’t, is shut down as quickly as it can get going. It also doesn’t require your full attention all the time.

It can make short turns or full on hip dragging gs turns, then power through cut up chop and go destroy crud. The edge hold is truly impressive. Unlike the dw, you have to ski it, and tell it what to do. But once you trust the stability you can let them run flat, bomb and slash 3d snow.

It has a relatively big sweet spot and a loose rockered tip making it ideal for steep chute skiing, Trees in decent snow, no problem. In bumps, have your game on and they rip. The C108 has been my daily driver since the original came out, but the last version is my all time favorite. I’ve demoed the C102 and it’s as dialed as the 108 in a slimmer profile. It rips.

Thanks for the info. I’ve spoken with a few others about the C102, and they’ve said something similar (former racers turned freeride). I’m weighing it against the new Nordica Enforcer 104, Maverick 105 CTI, Salomon Stance 102, etc. But I think I’m leaning toward grabbing the C102.

I would go one thirty personally. I find the one fifteens to accommodate up to about one twenty without bending. And on a ski that big, I’m not really worried about a few mms of overhang.
