Prelim impressions on the 190 DWT. 2 days. Heavy new snow. Mounted at 0.5 cm fwd w/tectons.

Awesome ski. Little softer flex than I expected after hand flexing which I think improves versatility. Actually planes and floats in deep snow really well. Was bummed not to have my bent chetlers at first, but the DWT did great. Slices well in heavy snow. Predictable. Tracks well. Handles speed. Actually comes alive nicely with a bit of speed. As with all tour core moments, punches well above the weight. Delightful to ascend with. Too much snow to really notice or appreciate the triple camber. I’m fine with having that problem.

Recommended mount point = floating like a 112 wildcat. Fwd of mount point = fat all mtn jib ski.

BOTH MOUNT POINTS WORK. WE DON’T HAVE TO LOOSELY DISAGREE ABOUT ONE BEING BETTER THAN THE OTHER.

another offering by moment that has me super impressed. Looking forward to some more days before the lifts open. It’s pounding in the PNW.

Reviews like Supre’s have me intrigued. These seem like they’d be a rad 1 quiver ski for Sierra touring.

I've been -2 on the three pairs of DWs (and the 2 pairs of UWs) I've owned. If you're a no-jib/ski-in-the-front-of-your-boots kinda guy -2 should work just fine.

I have a pair of DW 184s (19/20) mounted up with STH2s and I'm thinking of quiver killing them for some Zeds as a travel setup. I bought these last year right when the resorts shutdown so I never actually got to ski them. I'm kind of leaning toward the Wildcat Tour for a 50/50 setup per what Blister had mentioned but thought I'd reach out here to get some input. 75% of my resort days are noodling around with kids with the occasional pow day or tracked out weekend day in Tahoe. I have a dedicated lightweight daily driver touring setup (Praxis BCs) and powder setup (Praxis FRS reverse camber). Just wanted to have something that I can take when traveling with limited gear space and/or just want the ability to switch up the backcountry ski here and there.

TLDR: 184 Deathwish (19/20) vs Wildcat Tour for 50/50ish use?

I would go DW if it were me, but I haven't skied the Wildcat or WCT so disregard this as much as you like

I was fortunate enough to be part of a gear/factory tour with Moment today and we talked about this 50/50 deal. They recommended doing the Wildcat Tour for anyone looking at a 50/50 over the Deathwish Tour (more touring oriented) or the normal Deathwish. If you've got the funds to switch to the wildcat tour, do it. If your DW's were longer I would totally snatch em from you.

They do ride VERY differently though, so be aware of that before switching.

Do you mean they recommended the Wildcat Tour over DW Tour and DW for 50/50? I have to run in to the shop sometime anyway and will talk to them about it. Just didn’t know if anyone skis both and could chime in.

Here’s another vote for the WC tour based on its superior performance in pow. Which is what we all hope to travel and tour for right?

Wildcat tour if you get to tour for pow. Deathwish if you spend time touring for snow that isn’t pow

Might just be me but I wouldn’t recommend the wildcat tour for 50/50 use. I have both the wildcat tour and regular wildcat (well Bibby technically). IMO the regular wildcat is considerable better in chop than the tour due to the increased weight. They both crush untracked pow but the tour is much more pow dependent which is why I wouldn’t ski it inbounds.

I have Wildcats in both versions, and Wildcat 108s in both versions, and would very easily choose normal Deathwish for this purpose. Not much heavier than a Wildcat tour, and for something 50/50 use I would opt to have the heavier weight for inbounds, and then take the slight weight penalty for touring. And the versatility of the deathwish makes it the perfect candidate for this. The added taper and every so slightly softer flex of its design when compared to the Wildcat allows it to punch above its weight in terms of pow performance.

I agree. I have a pair of regular DW in 190 that are mounted with shifts. I've toured a ton on them and it is the ultimate quiver of one. Since I have a Moment Ski problem I also have other skis because I can. I do not need any of them.

THIS. Deathwish with Shifts is hard to beat as a one ski quiver.

Cool, thanks for the perspectives. I was probably going to quiver kill them just because I'm a bit of a weight weeny. DW/Shift seems to be a pretty heavy setup compared to what I typically tour on - easily 2lbs or so heavier than what I'm used to.

I've heard this said many times on this thread. Kinda regret not putting my shifts on a pair.

Another vote for the regular Deathwish as an awesome 50/50 ski. They are my choice for a one ski quiver hands down. Decently light to tour on, and enough umph to charge pretty hard inbounds. Triple camber works, nuff said.

I just got out on my DWT’s and didn’t feel much of a spark. Too soon to make a judgement, but there may be a pair of 184’s on gear swap soon. Will def ride them again before though. Mail order brides...
