Anyone know what year of Commanders these are and what they were like?
22-23. Charging beasts. They ski long. They are stout skis and you need to be on your a game or they will take you for a ride. Fun ski though. I have the same years 98’s

Can anyone speak to Deathwish 104 vs Wildcat 101 as a lowtide bump-freeride-springtime ski? Backbone vs edgehold vs maneuverability vs style of skiing etc? Thanks!

for spring skiing deathwish 104 all the way. Better edge hold in variable conditions and better edge hold in firmer stuff as well. Both similarly maneuverable overall with ease of pivot to slow speed. Both are similar with backbone as neither is a soft. Technically the dw has the stiffer core but the wc uses a stiff layup combo. Dw is a more versatile ski overall.

Wc108 and dw112 are both playful chargers, with emphasis on the playful. When they went narrower dw went more chargy, wc went more playful/park friendly

x2. Most fun soft bumps/slush sprayer. Best use case that I've identified. For some reason I like WC more in chalk/mid-winter high pressure.

Has anyone demoed Moment's from 7Even ski shop in SLC? I was disappointed when Moment told me they no longer demo through Kaelin their local Rep but through above shop. Location sucks for me (and anyone else near the Cottonwoods) but worse when I called 7Even they gave me a cryptic answer about doing Moment a favor and demo's are $62 / day. "If you want to demo for more than one day stop by and maybe there is something we can do about the price." FWIW, their website touts being the demo site for Renoun skis, nothing about Moment. I bought three pair of Moments as a direct result of the demo program and I know several Alta skiers that did the same thing.

Same. I got on the moment train after demoing in 2018 with Kaelin. 7even skis is a great shop. Todd and Chip are great guys. If you went in and explained the situation, I bet they’d take care of you on the price.

I have a pair of 194 Ghost Trains with pin bindings. This is the wider counterpoint to a 190 Deathwish tour, which while a great ski isn’t a “powder ski” it’s a versatile touring ski.

Skied the Ghost Trains today for the first time of the year. I’ve been working back from a torn Achilles and just have not pulled out the big skis. Truly a silly fun ski. You can pivot on a dime and they have a huge sweet spot. I still think we need a tour core version but it s a sweet ski. Melee its time to rest the Chipotle Banana’s spot on the reserve list for a while and do a Ghost Trains Tour…. Price them high enough to make it worth your while but you’d quickly sell out of a small run.

6’1” and 165lbs. The 194 feels nimble and easy. Zero concerns with the size even with a touring boot.

^^^You guys on the 194’s have me curious. It just seems like a lot of ski. Anyone compare the 193 CB to the 194 GT? I went from 186 CB which I loved, to 193 CB which were too much for my aging body to handle. But, the GT sounds quite different than the CB. The 193 CB felt like a very demanding ski to me, like I needed to ski everything Mach Looney to make the juice worth the squeeze. It’s currently-14 with a 20 mph wind, time to pontificate on big pow skis.

Also have the 194 trains. They are more nimble in soft snow than my 190 wildcats. They are so surfy. It’s going to take me a few days to learn how to turn on them like I do my cats (bobbing up and down/porpoising), because they always want to pivot. They have a massive sweet spot which makes them turn so so easy. The CB is much more stiff and more for crud busting, making for a more difficult ski to handle. 194 GT belongs in the HOF.

    I’ve skied the 190cm Wildcat, 190cn Deathwish, 187 Meridian 117, and 184cm Wildcat.

In terms of ability to ski tight trees in soft snow, the 194cm Ghost train feels like more ski than the 184vm Wildcat but pivots easier than the others. To each their own as the 186cm likely still has a lot of float and would pivot even better but I’ve liked the large sweet spot of the 194cm. If the question is “will these take a lot of effort to turn at slow speeds” the answer is “nope”. I think they make great innermountian touring skis as they don’t need speed or space to be fun.

For a company that has a slogan “overkill is underrated” moment does very conservative sizing.

Thanks for the feedback on the GT sizing. I try to avoid sizing up nowadays unless I'm in between sizes i.e. my 188 ARV 106s are my longest sticks simply cuz I know the next size down, 180, would be too short (I'm 5'11" and 190 lbs). Doesn't hurt they actually measure out to 185.5.

However, I just noticed this on the GT size chart: "The GT is a stiff fully rockered powder ski... Don't be afraid to size up". So does their size chart already take this in to account, or are they telling me size up from their chart?

Or I might just end up going with Candide AK 121 in a 190 as I wouldn't think twice about the length, and also have a reverse profile minus the micro camber sections.

At your size get the Ghost Train in 194. I'm an inch taller and 30 pounds lighter. The quickest pivoting ski in the garage and the longest. Thank me later.

As to moment being conservative on the size charts. One thing to keep in mind is that TGR is not representative of the ski buying public. If someone is coming from a 179 from a euro ski company they are unlikely to size up to a 184. Some of us like long skis and don't need a chart to know that IMHO.

The folks at Moment can provide input. I chatted with them (online and via phone) before deciding to purchase the 186 GT’s over the 194’s. I thought the 194’s would be a no-brainer coming from 190’s in the OG WC, WC 108, and DW 104, but after talking about my standard haunts (trees, decent mix of steep and technical, not too much super wide open) and conditions (sierra “powder”), they convinced me that the 184’s would be better for me.

Unfortunately, I’ve not yet been able to test whether I made the right decision yet…

Dreams do come true -- looks like I'll be the proud owner of 194 Ghost Trains in the next couple of weeks. Only question now is what binding do I mount...

    Shift2 or ATK Freeraiders?

I definitely want to be able to ride them inbounds for the truly deep days, but I also want to tour with them for short tours (<2000 ft). In addition, it would be pretty sweet to eventually take these on a Japan trip some day in the future if the stars align.

Also, not a fan of Pivots, so CAST is not an option for me.

Probably ATK if you're going to tour and only ski them on truly deep days, which are few and far between. ATK Freeraiders and are pretty stout and shift2 are going to be really heavy.
