Was called a pussy for not getting out the CB 186s I have up for sale on here. Ended up remounting them last night and got them out. Not ideal conditions (about 8-9 days post big snow fall, but there are some goods to be had in various spots of Stevens Pass). Wow these things are a cheat code. I didn't encounter icy conditions, but they actually feel great for 120+ width on groomers and weren't a chore to put on edge. I felt so confident going fast on anything steep with longer turns or just running it out all the way down. The coolest attribute is the full rocker and how that equates to them being very nimble, easy to cut speed, slash, etc. In moguls and tight trees they didn't feel cumbersome at all. They actually almost felt more nimble than my DW 104 184s. I haven't been on a really stiff metal charger in a long time to compare, but I actually didn't find this ski to be that demanding. Overall, I think it has a wider sweet spot than it is given credit for. I think my use case for this ski (and probably many others) is days with some good snow accumulation, several days after, and also just random days where you feel like messing around at higher speeds and blasting through some chop even when it hasn't snowed in a while.

Yeah I just heard about full rocker skis not being the greatest on firm snow so I imagined a 122 waist full rocker ski would be horrible. Looking at the forecast it seems like winter is coming to an end up in the PNW, but excited to get the CB out next winter.

I feel like the longer flat portion under foot really helps the GT on firm. It’s very surprising.

I figure since I subjected you all to my mental illness hand wringing I could at least provide a review as a follow up.
Me: 49 years old, 5'10ish, 170 lbs.
Boots: Tecnica ZGTP
Bindings: Moment Voyager 13
Skis: Moment DWT 112 - 184

So I have a few days on these now and can give some initial thoughts. First day I just skied a few runs at the resort, conditions off trail were soft, cruddy bumps and groomers were smooth and fast. They pivoted easily in the soft chunder and made easy turns and I didn't really have to think about making any adjustments to my skiing other than dialing in the speed due to the light skis and boots and being on a tech binding. I typically would have been on a QST Blank and Mach 1 130's which is obviously going to be faster and smoother, but the DWT gave me no problems and were fun. On the groomers I feel like I did have to make some adjustments to my style. I got a little bit of chatter from the tips at the completion of the turns and I suspect it was the way I was weighting them, either too much shin pressure or not enough. I didn't really spend much time figuring it out though as I really don't care how they ski groomers and it was fine anyway. I also did have at least one sensation of the outside ski carving away from me and down the fall line when tried to really get up on edge angle. Again, didn't explore this much.

On to the bc on the weekend, I was able to ski 6000 feet Saturday and 4000 feet Sunday. Conditions were mostly settled pow, with some wind crusts, light avy debris, wet snow and some refrozen breakable crust. First time I ripped skins I was on top of an 1800 foot face that ranges from 35-40 degrees, with the dense settled snow. The snow had just enough wind texture to it that you weren't quite sure if you'd run into a crust but overall it was smooth, boot top, wind cream pow. I'd say that compared to my previous bc ski, 184 V Werks Katana, the DWT was 15% less chargey. I just didn't have the full confidence to step on the gas and drive the tips like I would have on that ski. But....when I came to tight spots between clifs, or having to ski through light avy debris and didn't want to charge...way easier, just intuitive. Super easy to get through tight spots and stay balanced, where as with the Katana if I didn't drive in those spots I would get rocked back seat and feel less controlled.

The next spot I noticed a difference from the Katana was on a low elevation exit couloir. The snow for the top half of the couloir was dense, hot pow. Again the DWT was surfy and easy and I could make any turn shape I wanted and switch it up instantly with what felt like little input. The bottom half of the couloir was soft, wet avy debris from the snow that had shed off the walls above. I skied the entire shot in one go and went well out the apron out the bottom and didn't think much of it. My partners, who I would consider to be very strong skiers, and fitter than me, both had to pull up on the wall of the couloir and take a breather half way through. The only thing I can attribute this to is just how easy the DWT is to ski in tough conditions.

Next day, went again and skied more settled pow and felt even more comfortable, went a little faster and the ski felt fine, no weird manners and I don't think I skied any differently than I would have on the Katana. The skis are light and easy to climb, and I was surprised that I didn't get hung up on all that tail when doing kick turns.

Overall, super happy so far. I'm happy to lose that 15% top end of the Katana for what the ski brings everywhere else. Can't wait to get some more time, hopefully some deep blower pow to see how they handle that as I'm pretty confident I'll like them everywhere else.

I forgot to mention in my review that I mounted mine -0.5 cm. Seems like nothing but my thought is that most boots in my size have a smaller BSL, so if I ever change boots I’ll end up closer to the line but not forward.

Did you go 184? If yes, I think that would account for the less top end. Really I’m just posting to say how jealous I am that you got to ski >35 degree slope. Goddamn our snowpack is fucked.

Just some thoughts. Picked up a pair of the og Deathwish’s this year. I have been ridding the dw 104’s as my dd for the last year and a half and can’t say enough good things about them. After 1 turn I knew it was the perfect west coast dd for me. The og full flavor dw not so much. I was expecting something that just like a beefed up version of the smaller ski. To me it felt sluggish and much less lively. I know it’s a bigger ski but it feels completely different to me. Especially companion the other moments I own. Commander 108’s and meridians. I just fell like I will use some other skis in its slot. I was thinking it would round out my mix of moments but now I’m thinking about getting rid of the og dw and trying out the wildcat’s. Anyways I guess I’m just a little sad the og dw was not the ski of my dreams.

320 BSL. A bit pricey and I would need to remount. I want a reverse ski that's moderate weight wise. I was thinking the Devastator, but the Meridian works, too. Tempted to grab a pair and wait on the new 105 Pivot brake.

How do you like the Meridian compared to the DW104? That ski is on my radar, also. I've been dailying J Hotshot's and after lapping the mountain on my lightweight park skis I'm kinda looking for a ski that's in the mid-fat range, but lighter and quicker.

For me the dw104 is just a little quicker edge to edge, and the meridian pivots better. Not much of a surprise there. For a full rocker ski the meridians flat out charge, a little more chargey in the chop. I feel like I ski more bouncy and popping around on the dw. Where as the meridians I feel like I slarve around slashing where I can. The edge hold is better on the dw, as expected. If I had a quiver of 1 I would want the meridian, but in a few ski rotation the dw really shines.

Yeah... I missed the 186 again this year. Moment is showing 30 of the 187 Meridians. I'm in a pretty good place, ski wise, but I want a flat/lighter ski in the midfat zone. I might wait for next year.

Interesting that the effective edge between the 187 Meridian and 194 Dev is only a difference of a little under 3cm. I’m 6’5”, thinking the Dev might be a better choice for me, I dunno

Ok Moment dudes. I need some help here. I've been riding my Commanders for several days and jumped back to my Hotshots.

I'm in a strange place with that ski. It's a jack of all trades and I happily skied it a ton last year when it was soft, but it kinda sucks in steep firm conditions.

I'm thinking the DW 104 would be a good ski for the days when I'm not quite as chargy, but still need a ski in steep, tech, firm conditions.

Probably sounds strange to say it, but I'm finding the Commander easier to ski in steep tech than the Hotshot. Primarily because it's got some strength underfoot and is easy to shut down when I'm making hop turns or tight, firm, mogul turns.

I want something lighter than 2300 grams on the more mellow days, but it needs to lock into firmer snow and handle a bit of soft chop and pockets of fresh.

I was back and forth with the Meridian and Devastator, but I'm back to thinking the magical triple camber may be the way.

Thoughts?

Edit, I may still kick this can to next year, but I probably have 40 more days to go. The Hotshot is safe. It rips soft and is a great corn ski, but man it slarves a lot. I need more carve in my DD this year. I guess I could just daily the Commander....
