Question for the quivered Ice-coast DW104 crew: Do you rely on anything narrower in your lineup for glare-ice days? Or Do you find edge-hold to be adequate? Looking at thinning the quiver and want to make sure I keep at least an adequate tool for true boilerplate. Lucky enough to not have had the opportunity to get mine out on the worst-of-the worst

Currently on the left coast but grew up on and still visit the ice coast, have brought my DW104s with me on a trip there.
I think it depends what you are looking for and are used to. The DW104 with sharp edges has way better edge hold than anything I have used in the width. If it gets just a little softer than bullet proof then hold is very very good. Personally, I have a pair of FIS SL skis I use on firm days but that is because I grew up racing and am used to them. If you are used to using wider skis then the DW104 will not be noticeably lacking especially compared to equivalents.

I ski MN when I have too. Pretty much IceCoast with no vert. I ski the DW104 here most of the time, but I'd like a carve specific ski for shitty times. Something more like an 78mm-88mm with metal. And Maybe get a more soft-snow specific ski like a WC108. DW104 can do everything, Swiss-Army Knife style. Good at everything, great at nothing? Pretty great as a single travel ski though.

I mainly ski a PBJ in MN. It’s like a WC but at 11 underfoot.

I have a DW112 that is my now go to for out west but would totally ski a 104 on the ice if I had it.

But recently I found a pair of 186 Exit Worlds and decided to give them look over the holidays. Tahoe was blessed with deep days over the past month. I put these through everything from several inches of fresh, boot deep pow, sun-baked crust on pow, and a surprise waist deep pow day. These skis have blown my expectations. The extra rocker and taper has been a dream in powder. They float amazing and pivot on a dime. These saved me when I skied a sunbaked crusty pow run by accident. Didn't hook up and kept me from trouble. The width and rocker made the deeper days more fun for me in our denser Tahoe snow. Despite this I felt that I had similar grip to my DWT, even on steeper skin tracks. Graphics are on point as well. Not great on groomers, but that was a means to an end (or rather a backcountry gate). Suffice to say, these are my new DD touring ski.

If Moment every decided to re-release these, snag a pair asap. I'd even recommend maybe shaving a few hundred grams off (mine are 1900g) as it would help on longer days. I promise you'd fall in love too.
    Beautiful setup.

And no, they aren’t touring Bibbys. These had an attempt at triple camber with a flat spot underfoot. A touch dodgy on the skin maybe, but dreamier in pow

Agree. My bent chet/shift is basically just an inbounds setup now. Have yet to sink the DWT/tecton setup

If anyone is stuck with a single Deathwish 184 and is willing to let it go for a reasonable price, please send me a message. Half of my set is sleeping in Snowbird pow til spring

Yeah, realistically, I don't need an Exit World, I probably just need two DWTs, a 184 with tiny bindings for big days in variable snow, and a 190 with Voyagers for deep mini-golf days.

I’m still holding for a DTW 104… or a 184cm Sierra Tour would be sweet as a pairing with a 190 Deathwish.

End of day… more triple camber options would be fun.

I want them. Bad. Hard to justify between billy goats, C&D’s, and C 124’s. But maybe…

I miss my C124s... I only got to ski them once in legitimate conditions, but wish I had them more for those deep days every 3 years...

Let’s make a deal. We can share the C124’s you sold me and we go in on some 196 kitties.

I was in that boat too...

Don't forget to be looking for the Underworld's that was basically the DWT 106 before the DWT 106. That's how I filled that urge.
TLDR; Ski faster. Quit breathing. Don't crash.

Any chance there will be a spring production run of Chipotle Bananas (193cm)?

I currently ski Head Monster 98's in 184cm length for my Colorado daily drivers. Has anyone here skied both the Monsters and the Commander 98's?

For reference, OG Metal Volkl Katanas in 191cm are my all time favorite ski (I may or may not have a small hoard of them), and I have a pair of Moment Blister (AKA Bibby) Pros in 190cm for a powder ski and Moment Wildcat Tour 108's in 190cm for a Colorado backcountry daily driver. I'm hoping that the Commander 98 in 188cm skis like a skinny Katana, the Head Monsters are absolutely awesome for ripping GS to Super G turns on groomers and they're my current favorite bump ski, but I can't seem to find them used anywhere and I'm starting to thinking about a replacement when I wear out my current pair.

I havent skied the Katana, but have an OG Dev 194 (full rockered, 111 waist, and weigh a ton) and find the C98s are much more energetic on anything groomed/firm, and even with the flat tail they maneuver just as good off piste which I rack up to the shorter length and lower weight.

I don't know thay I would say they are comparable to the Devs, but definitely a great all around ski. I have yet to find conditions that they really suck at, and they are an absolute blast on hardpack/groomers and do a very commendable job soaking up chop.

I have heard great things about the Meridian, which may be more Katana like.

I took a visit to the Moment factory this weekend and was able to demo the Commander series for the first time. Probably has been talked about ad nauseum but I thought I’d share my JONG 2₵, specifically for a Commander 98 vs 108 comparison. For reference I have the 190cm DW104 and 190 WC.

First day I used the 188cm Commander 108 in somewhat soft Palisades conditions, the day after a storm. It was surprisingly maneuverable for Moment’s more directional offering, even in (relatively) steep, tighter lines like the chute looker’s right of McConkey’s. Coming from the DW104 and WC, I had to focus on driving the front of my boots lest I wanted to get taken for a ride. It can also hold a wicked edge for being 108 underfoot, even on scraped-off, end-of-day groomers. Unfortunately, I was a little unimpressed by the suspension considering its weight, since I don’t think its damping is as good as the WC’s. Caveat: I do only ski the WC when it’s fresh and soft, so I may be giving the WC an unfair advantage here. In the few less-tracked spots I skied that day, it also had a pretty decent amount of float (which I wasn’t expecting).

The second day involved the 188cm Commander 98 on a borderline boiling day at Alpine (40°F!) with variable conditions depending on the slope aspect. They stayed predictable on the very firm morning moguls, and equally as comfortable pivoting around the softer snow when I made the correct run choice. The reduced weight of the 98s made them noticeably easier to swing around when needed when compared with the 108s, and almost as pivotable as the DW104 (assuming you’re driving your boots). The same theme as above applies, when coming from more progressive/center mounted skis, I needed to be more cognizant about driving the boots and preventing myself from getting lazy/sloppy with my form. Suspension was similar to the 108, which was impressive to me due to the lighter weight of the 98. One of my favorite aspects was groomer performance, which was really confidence inspiring and felt comfortable making Downhill / Super-G / GS turns at any speed regardless of whether the conditions were bumped up/firm/end-of-day pushed around. I didn’t run into any speed limit, even when going much faster than I should have. The ease of shutting it down quickly also added to my confidence level on them, partly because they felt natural to do so.
All in all I liked the Commander 108s, but really “clicked” with the Commander 98s, especially considering I have enough soft snow specific skis for the time being. If I were to add another soft snow ski to the quiver, it’d be one with a propensity for chop destruction (LP105/Sender Squad or similar), so I’ll probably try to add the narrower Commanders to my quiver once the lady forgets about the most recent purchase...
